Access to starting point:
From highway Ljubljana - Jesenice we go to the exit Lesce and follow the road towards Bled and forward towards Bohinjska Bistrica. We continue driving towards the lake Bohinj (Ribčev laz), where we come to a crossroad, where we continue straight on the left (south) side of the lake in the direction of Ukanc and waterfall Savica. We follow this road to the bottom station of the cable car on Vogel, we then buy a ticket and go with a cableway to the upper station, which is the starting point for our tour, except if we additionally shorten it (for 30 min) with four-seater chairlift to Orlove glave. Chairlift works also in the summer season.
Path description:
The path runs past Ski hotel Vogel, past the mountain hut Merjasec and on a ski slope downwards past the station Storeč and four-seater chairlift, which runs to Orlove glave (here is also possible to go with a chairlift, which shortens the path for 30 minutes). After that, the path runs below four-seater chairlift to the upper station of Orlove glave. Here continues ahead below the chairlift, which runs to the upper station Šija. The path at first runs on a transport road for the purpose of a ski slope, and soon it narrows into a footpath. At the edge of track of the ski slope Šija - Zadnji Vogel (i.e. little before the steepest section of all tracks on a ski slope Vogel) we need to go right and cross a ski track and continue in the western direction below the slopes of Šija. At the next crossing, we can continue on the upper ridge path (demanding path) or on a little longer easy bottom path which starts descending and turns a little to the right, in doing so we get a feeling, that we go wrong. Soon joins the path from the upper station of two-seater chairlift Zadnji Vogel. Here the path continues left and then descends a little. After that, the path gets a good pace and starts slightly ascending. A little further follows a crossing, where there stands a signpost for Vogel, which we follow on the path upwards. The path here starts ascending and soon again joins the demanding path and in additional strides it brings us on notch Vrata or Vratca, which is the second-lowest point between Primorska and Gorenjska from Mangart to Črna Prst (after Vršič). After that, the path leads on the ridge, which is steep and demanding, but well-secured. After that, the path crosses slopes and it brings us to a crossing for Vogel, from which continues straight in the direction of saddle Konjsko sedlo, to which further leads panoramic and gentle path. From the saddle, the path descends following the signs »Komna« and crosses slopes on the west side of Bohinjski Migovec (1896 meters). At the next crossing continues left (right Komna) in the direction of the mountain hut Koča na planini Razor.
After a shorter crossing, the path leads past a smaller valley, where we step from the slopes of Bohinjski Migovec on more rocky slopes of Vrh nad Škrbino. Here the path turns a little to the right and runs over smaller rough scree. The path ahead on the left side bypasses a smaller sinkhole, in which through the entire year stays snow. On the other side of the sinkhole, the path starts ascending steeply towards the notch Škrbina, which we reach after approximately 15 minutes of additional ascent.
On the notch Škrbina a view opens up to Primorska side. Left or straight runs the path towards pl. Razor and towards Vrh nad Škrbino, and right towards Podrta gora, Zeleni vrh and Tolminski Kuk. Further, the path crosses slopes below Podrta gora and is slightly ascending. When the path is relatively near Zeleni vrh and reaches its indistinct peak and the slope on the right is scree, it is best to go on pathless terrain on a steep slope upwards. We need to go left from the peak and at first pass on the ridge, which we then follow to the summit. Approach is possible also direct on a slope and over rocks to the summit, but this approach is slightly more demanding. Without easy short climbing it is not possible. From the top, there is a beautiful view on Lake Bohinj and on kingdom of Triglav.
