Access to starting point:
From highway Ljubljana - Jesenice on exit Lesce and on the road towards Bled and forward towards Bohinjska Bistrica. We continue driving towards the lake Bohinj (Ribčev laz), where we come to a crossroad, where we continue straight on the left (south) side of the lake in the direction of Ukanc and waterfall Savica. We follow this road to the bottom station of the cable car on Vogel, we then buy a ticket and go with a cableway to the upper station, which is the starting point for our tour, except if we additionally shorten it (for 30 min) with four-seater chairlift to Orlove glave. Chairlift works also in the summer season.
Path description:
The path runs past Ski hotel Vogel, past the mountain hut Merjasec and on a ski slope downwards past the station Storeč and four-seater chairlift, which runs to Orlove glave (here is also possible to go with a chairlift, which shortens the path for 30 minutes). After that, the path runs below four-seater chairlift to the upper station of Orlove glave. Here continues ahead below the chairlift, which runs to the upper station Šija. The path at first runs on a transport road for the purpose of a ski slope, and soon it narrows into a footpath. At the edge of track of the ski slope Šija - Zadnji Vogel (i.e. little before the steepest section of all tracks on a ski slope Vogel) we need to go right and cross a ski track and continue in the western direction below the slopes of Šija. At the next crossing, we can continue on the upper ridge path (demanding path) or on a little longer easy bottom path which starts descending and turns a little to the right, in doing so we get a feeling, that we go wrong. Soon joins the path from the upper station of two-seater chairlift Zadnji Vogel. Here the path continues left and then descends a little. After that, the path gets a good pace and starts slightly ascending. A little further follows a crossing, where there stands a signpost for Vogel, which we follow on the path upwards. The path here starts ascending and soon again joins the demanding path and in additional strides it brings us on notch Vrata or Vratca, which is the second-lowest point between Primorska and Gorenjska from Mangart to Črna Prst (after Vršič). After that, the path leads on the ridge, which is steep and demanding, but well-secured. After that, the path crosses slopes and it brings us to a crossing for Vogel, from which continues straight in the direction of saddle Konjsko sedlo, to which further leads panoramic and gentle path.
Exactly one nice few hundred-meters long turn before the saddle Konjsko sedlo, more precisely below the mountain Rušnati vrh (1915 meters), we leave the marked path and we go on a steep slope on the ridge (partly demanding pathless terrain). On the ridge on the left Rušnati vrh, straight below view towards the sea, and right on the ridge runs unmarked path, which Mejo (1996 meters) in final stage reaches on the south side of the rocky ridge.
Unmarked path towards Vrh nad Škrbino further runs on a nice panoramic ridge. From Meja path at first descends and then starts ascending towards the destination. The last part of the path is on rare spots at most partly demanding by difficulty.
From Vrh nad Škrbino we need to first meters carefully follow the path towards the west (carefully, because towards the southwest also runs one path). Further, we need to descend good 100 meters on very demanding secured path to Škrbina.
Further, the path crosses slopes below Vrh Konte and then below Podrta gora and is all the time slightly ascending towards the west. When the path is relatively near Zeleni vrh and reaches its indistinct peak and the slope on the right is scree, it is best to go on pathless terrain on a steep slope upwards (on grassy tongue). We need to go left from the peak and at first pass on the ridge, which we then follow to the summit. Approach is possible also direct on a slope and over rocks to the summit, but this approach is slightly more demanding. Without easy short climbing it is not possible. From the top, there is a beautiful view on Lake Bohinj and on kingdom of Triglav.
Return is possible through Škrbina and saddle Konjsko sedlo back to initial part of the path.
