Tomaž Gorec has currently walked the French part of Camino Frances. He is currently in the Basque Country (Spain), where he is crossing the Pyrenees.
At the very beginning he got blisters, which is well known to me from many of my long-distance hikes. The fact is that some people get blisters, others don't. I saw it with my own eyes.
The problem with these long-distance hikes is that your legs hurt more every day if you are not in excellent medical and physical condition. Blisters only intensify the pain. Every step can be pure pain.
Years ago, when I walked the Franciscan Way in Italy: Florence–Assisi, I had no problems with blisters, but the backpack straps cut into my skin due to the weight of the backpack, so I was in pain again.

Tomaž Gorec has walked the French and Spanish Pyrenees and spent the night on the outskirts of Pamplona, more precisely in the town of Villava.
What is this town known for? Indurain has won the Tour de France **five times in a row**, between 1991 and 1995, and also won the Giro d'Italia twice. That's why cycling is an important part of Villava's identity.
For someone who follows sports, Villava is thus doubly interesting: **one of the most famous pilgrimage routes in the world passes through it, and at the same time it is the birthplace of one of the greatest cyclists in history.**

Tomaž Gorec has moved away from the Pyrenees and is slightly closer to Compostela, in the village of Obanos. Given that he comments on everything in his YouTube videos that he publishes every day, we will see what good and bad he will experience as it continues. Above all, it will be important how well his body regenerates. It will also be very important that he avoids problems with his feet, especially blisters and painful soles, as well as other abrasions and irritated skin, for example between the thighs or under the armpits. He has the will, the path entertains him, only pain can be his big opponent.
He finished a little before the place Puente La Reina, where Oliver Tič stayed overnight in 2025. From now on, we will be able to compare how successful Gorec, alias Oliver, is in overcoming distances. But Oliver is quite a bit younger than Gorec.

Tomaž Gorec is progressing well on the Camino Frances and has found accommodation in the hamlet Sansol.
So far he has walked about 30 km every day, which is commendable.
He did say that he got a blister, but as long as the soles do not start burning due to blisters with every step, there is no problem.
Geographically tomorrow he will cross the autonomous community Navarra and enter the next administrative community of Spain La Rioja.

On 3. 9. 2026 he was in the town of Najera (Rioja). Compared to Oliver Tič, he's doing quite well. They walk approximately the same stages, only sleeping in different places. In addition, Oliver Tič was known for not having blisters, which somehow guarantees that you can walk 30 kilometers day after day, which is definitely not normal. Tomaž Gorec still has about 100 km left (click), and he will reach the middle of Camino Frances. On 7. 9. 2026 he was in the famous Spanish city of Burgos.
Burgos is one of the most important cities on the Camino Francés. It lies in the region of Castile and León, and the pilgrimage route leads through its historic center.
The greatest attraction is the magnificent Gothic cathedral of Santa María, whose construction began in 1221. The famous Spanish medieval hero El Cid is also buried there.
After Burgos the landscape changes significantly. Pilgrims enter the Meseta, the vast Castilian plateau with long straight paths, wheat fields and small villages.

On 8. 9. 2026 the persistent hiker Tomaž Gorec spent the night in the town of Hontanas. He is approaching halfway to the main goal of Camino Frances Compostela.
The map shows part of the route **Camino Francés west of Burgos**, where the pilgrimage route crosses the typical open landscape of the Castilian **Meseta**. The blue line marks the path that leads past **Castrojeriz** and then towards **Itero del Castillo or Itero de la Vega** and further west.
A **red bed icon** is specially marked. It shows **Hontanas**, an important pilgrimage stop that we talked about earlier. Hontanas lies east of **Castrojeriz** and is a popular place for pilgrims to stay overnight. The village is hidden in a small valley in the middle of an otherwise quite open and dry landscape.
From the marked bed the Camino continues roughly like this:
**Hontanas → ruins of the San Antón monastery → Castrojeriz → Itero del Castillo/Itero de la Vega → border between the provinces of Burgos and Palencia → Frómista.**
The map also shows very nicely how **sparsely populated** this region is. Between individual villages there are large areas of fields and almost no larger settlements. Such long, open sections are typical for the Camino across the Meseta. | more on HTML |.

Camino Francés – from Carrión de los Condes towards Sahagún
Tomaž Gorec continues the path through the characteristic flat landscape of Tierra de Campos. After Carrión de los Condes follows a long and quite lonely section to Calzadille de la Cueza, a small pilgrim village that appears almost suddenly after a long walk through the fields. The path then continues through Ledigos and Terradillos de los Templarios, whose name recalls the medieval Knights Templar. From here the Camino leads further towards Moratinos and Sahagún. This is a very open, flat and typical part of the Camino Francés, where endless wheat fields and small pilgrim villages predominate. More at | HTML |.
