Mežakla from the Kočna settlement via the Obranca alpine pasture to Planski vrh and further to Zakop

There isn't much written about paths on Mežakla, even less about paths that intertwine across its plateau, although there are quite a few and some are excellently marked. I somewhat combed through the eastern part of Mežakla, which rises highest at Planski vrh (1299m). I found two marked accesses to it, namely from Jesenice via Zakop and Škrbina, and from Planina Obranca, from where the path past Snežna jama is less marked than the one that turns east behind the shepherd's hut on the pasture and after a few dozen meters reaches a forest road, where I continue right again and follow the road until the markings lead me left onto a cart track. You can also reach Planina Obranca via several paths. Yesterday I used the one from the Kočna settlement past Poljanska Baba.

If we have organized transport between Kočna settlement and Športni park Podmežaklo Jesenice, as the starting point of the Jesenice path is right next to it, it's possible to connect both paths into a nice tour.

My yesterday's starting point was nicely described by Heinz and is located here http://www.hribi.net/izlet/kocna_poljanska_baba_/1/1255/2108. After viewing the raging Poljanska Baba, you need to return to the junction of the path towards Baba and continue steeply uphill along the marked path. The path is passable even after this year's ice avalanche, you need to watch the markings and it brings me to a crossroads where direction signs point me towards Obranca. Upon arriving at the pasture, I always head first past the monument to the edge for views. From the edge of the pasture, you can already see the shepherd's hut at the other end of the pasture, where I continued this time too. Behind the hut is a crossroads. This time I go right and when I step onto the cart track, I continue along it right again. Then I carefully follow the markings all the way to the direction signs below Planski vrh. This section of the path has the most fallen trees, which can be avoided, of course caution is needed so as not to miss the path during detours. From Planski vrh I follow the markings downhill towards the northern edge of the plateau, which takes me past the natural bridge to the transmitter on Škrbina. From Škrbina I continue more or less along the edge of the plateau. Here there might be slightly fewer markings, but more views to the north - down and up. The fence to the right downward points to the partisan hospital, which is worth visiting. After returning to the edge, I continue to the next direction signs, there the path turns left and brings me to Zakop in a few steps. At Zakop I follow the direction sign towards Jesenice. This path is also marked and after approximately 550 meters of descent brings me to the underpass right next to Športni park Podmežakla. Views from yesterday's tour here

Today I continued the path westwards, all the way to Jerebikovec. Orientation-wise it's more demanding so I won't describe it. Some snapshots here

Today I wandered here, from the monument at Kočna to Obranca and further to the natural bridge at Planski vrh, then back past the snow cave to Obranca and Kočna via the path past Poljanska baba. The path is mostly dry, a bit higher towards Planski vrh occasionally frozen. But there really are some orientation issues in the labyrinth of forest paths and roads on Mežakla, experienced yesterday when I found the path over Peske to the top, then towards Zakop... anyway need to keep direction towards Zakop, sooner or later you reach a known pathnasmeh

Afternoon on this path, from Jesenice to Planski vrh, past the snow cave and Obranca to Kočna, then further home, nice loop to hikenasmeh along the ridge and to Obranca there's still a lot of snow, and also a lot of fallen and broken trees and branches on the path and in the forest. From Obranca onwards the path is snow-free. Regards

After a long time again a trip from Jesenice to Planski vrh, descent to Kočna and then a walk back to Jesenice. To the transmitter on Škrbina the path is snow-free except some patches of snow, from there to Planski vrh mostly snowy, snow was just right for walking. Then again less and less snow, sunny and warm afternoon, nice day for such a hike. Regards

We went as a family for three days to Gozd Martuljek.nasmeh
The youngest wanted Mangart via the Slovenian path for the first day, but unfortunately it was canceled due to a firejezen, so we got to know Mežakla a bit.
In the village of Kočna we left the bikes, so that at the end we could ride them back to the starting point.jezik
Interesting path, suitable for everyone, I also recommend the ascent to the top of Obranca, which is a bit off the path, but offers beautiful views.mežikanje
