Yesterday, 14.7., I went from Pecol plateau to Montaž. I planned to go up past the bivouac, but a bit before the bivouac due to damaged protections and slippery sand I turned back. So I went up the usual path via Pipan ladder. Also on this path, one needs to be quite careful not to trigger stones. On the path I also saw some marmots and very many chamois. LP Rok.

Really beautiful photos. Do you have maybe more from the ridge to the top/above the ladder/ and is this ridge very exposed-airy? Can the ladder maybe be bypassed by some other path? Thanks and best regards.

Rok, thanks for the info. Didn't know Montaž was in the list of mountains, as a while ago it wasn't there yet. This Montaž tempts me a lot, as last year I already observed it from Špik hude police. LP

Since when from bivouac Suringar along glacier cables? Years ago when descending glacier they weren't there. Otherwise beautiful tour.

Yes, let me also write a bit about this beautiful mountain in western Julians.
We started from Pecol plateau, after an hour walk junction, right on normal path, then right past Disteis tower further on exposed ledge to bivouac Suringar (exceptional view on Clapadorie gorge) where ten minutes before bivouac path branches right (Findenegg gully). Path more climbing, without cables and pegs to top.
(Rok probably didn't know) and down Pipan ladder. Weather great, view wonderful... marmots and chamois huge amount.

I did it in the opposite direction. Then I saw so many black salamanders, never so many again. Bivak Suringar, really great views from there. Are there more Pipan ladders in the mountains (supposedly on Vevnica). Why?

Pipan is an Italian mountaineer who is the author of these ladders, there are more, I didn't remember the names but under the ladder there is his plaque in the rock. On Montaz it's between 60 and 80 meters long, on Vevnica good 15 meters, salamanders appear most after rain. L.P

Thanks Vinko. It really rained in the morning then a beautiful day came. Ascent on the ladder an experience. I saw the plaque below. Descent on Findenegger's couloir is a bit adrenaline. Before the bivouac a whole bunch of blooming gentians. Greetings and enjoy your mountain rambles.

The narrow road to the pasture is asphalted and without toll. No parking problem at the pasture either.

yes, in Italy you don't pay parking at any pasture or lake.
Here almost for every spruce and in Vrata valley they start at 5.00, my kangoo is now COMBI, the M/F (don't know the gender of the cashier) wanted to charge me for a van.
I think those with mountaineering club cards should be exempt from such payments, they could be separated from Sunday strollers!!!

Oh, yes you do pay, say you drive under Tre Cime, to the hut you have to pay 20 €, but after all the road goes up there... Just for comparison.

HELLO!
Wondering if anyone has been to Montaž this week and what the conditions up there are. Heading out Saturday, curious if there's still any snow left up there - route pecol-pipanova lojtra-summit.
