Cason di Lanza - Creta di Aip / Trogkofel (ferrata Crete Rose)

Access to starting point:
From Ljubljana on Gorenjska highway, exit Hrušica, continuation over the border crossing Rateče to Trbiž. We continue on a local road to Pontebba, where we get to a smaller orientational problem. Before the village we turn through the second underpass and after it sharply left. On this road we continue to a crossroad for Studena Bassa. If we by mistake turned through the first underpass, we continue through the village to a crossroad with signpost for mountain pass Nassfeld. Here we look left back and few 100 meters at the back we notice a sign for Studena Bassa. We drive there and we turn extremely sharp left on a narrower road. This leads towards the village Studena Bassa, through which we drive and continue on narrow and steep asphalt road with some serious turns towards the mountain pass Lonice or Cason di Lanza. There is guesthouse and a parking lot for some ten cars. For the entire path from Ljubljana to guesthouse we need 2 hours.

Path description:
After guesthouse we look for signposts and the path 439. The path is in the initial part nice macadam, which almost horizontal leads right towards the mountain pasture Malga di Val Force. After a good kilometer pay attention to turn off, marked with signs on a tree. The path crosses right through a meadow and descends into a gully with a stream. This on an appropriate place next to fallen footbridge we cross and on the opposite bank we again ascend. The path continues on very water rich terrain, which in rainy period definitely justify name of this area - Mokrine or Nassfeld in German ("wet field"). But do not worry. The path runs the way it avoids mud as much as possible. We continue with the crossing of the hill and before the mountain pasture we again join the macadam road. We continue there past the mountain pasture Malga di Val Dolce, until after some time we again notice signposts. Here we ascend through the gully steeply upwards. The path soon flattens and in a gentle ascent continues towards our destination. Below the foot of Trogkofel our path joins traverse path 403. From here ahead more ascents on the mountain are possible. If you want to try ferrata Crete Rosse, continue a good kilometer right in the direction of Nassfeld almost to the edge, where the path is turnning left. Signs for ferrata by the path you won't find, so pay attention to 2 boulders by the path. Ferrata is above them and is marked with the sign higher in the rocks.
About the ferrata only the best. It is well secured and runs partly on stones and partly on open wall. It demands some strength in arms, appropriate experience and if necessary self-belay set. Climbing gloves are recommended, a helmet is mandatory. Camera also :) Ferata won't leave anyone indifferent, especially in good weather, when you past boots look into depth :) It is long a good half an hour and overcomes approx 200 altitude meters. It ends on a slope break, which parts steep walls of Trogkofel with the upper plateau. From here to the top is good half an hour of pleasant walking on scenic terrain with beautiful views in good weather. On the summit, there is a cross and interesting box.
We can descend in more other directions, which are all less secured as the ascent route.
