From Maribor, we drive towards Dravograd or vice versa, but only to the beginning of the settlement Janževa Gora (from the direction of Dravograd, the end of the settlement Janževa Gora), where at the store Jäger the described path begins. At the starting point, there are no arranged parking spots for hikers.
Path description:
From the store we continue on the road towards the north, a little further from the crossroads we continue right, so that we walk between the forest on the left and houses on the right. Soon a footpath branches off to the left, which leads us into the forest, and at the first junction we go left, then right. Next follows a few minutes of ascent past numerous verses and quotes, and we arrive at the church of St. John the Baptist.
We bypass the church on the left side, then descend along a cart track to the road, which we follow slightly to the right (right downwards to Selnica ob Dravi) and begin to ascend along it.
The path ahead leads us past a cross, then we ascend with occasional views past individual houses. Higher up, we reach an enclosure, where we go left (here the path sometimes led right) and continue ascending on a narrower and quite steep asphalt road. Higher up, we reach the edge of the forest, where the asphalt ends, and we continue sharply right. Next follows some traversing to the right, which we do in a gentle ascent; when we reach the Katržan homestead, we go left uphill in the yard and ascend between the house and the outbuilding. Above the house, the path enters the forest and begins to ascend along a forest logging trail. A few minutes higher, we reach a forested ridge on and along which we continue the ascent. Further on, there are a few smaller junctions where we follow the blazes; for some time, signs for the Lovska naravoslovna učna pot LD Boč na Kozjaku trail are also along the path, but these end soon after the hunting stand, where there is also a visitors' book.
We continue to follow the blazes, and the path gradually shifts from the ridge to the right, to the eastern side of Janžev vrh. Here, the cart track begins to widen, but we leave it before the nearby homestead and continue slightly left on a footpath that bypasses an older house on the left side, behind which it joins a poorer road, which we follow to the left. On the panoramic saddle, a beautiful view opens up, which reaches all the way to Pece.
On the other side of the saddle, the path returns to the forest, and we continue straight on a footpath that ascends between two roads. Next follows some ascent on and along the forested ridge; when the ridge flattens, a short path branches off to the left to a panoramic cliff, from which a beautiful view opens up.
We continue towards the north and gradually begin to descend lightly. Lower down, we reach a cart track, and we continue slightly right and ascend gently to moderately along a wider cart track. A little further on, the blazes direct us onto a footpath that ascends somewhat more steeply and bypasses Kranjčeva pečina on the lower left side. When a few minutes higher we reach the edge of the pasture, we leave the path towards Sveti Duh na Ostrem Vrhu and go right in the direction of Kranjčeva pečina, which we reach in a minute of further walking. The ascent to the summit of the cliff itself is somewhat exposed and especially when wet dangerous for slipping.
Starting point - sv. Janez 0:15, sv. Janez - Kranjčeva pečina 1:55.
