Koča Porze - Porze / Cima Palombino (via notch Porze (Austrian secured path))

Access to starting point:
From Slovenia into Oberes Gailtal we can come through Karawanks Tunnel, over Korensko sedlo or through Trbiž over Megvarje / Maglern. Past Šmohor / Hermagor we continue through the valley to the settlement Kotschach-Mauthen and we continue into a valley Leška dolina / Lesachtal to the settlement Obertilliach (From Ljubljana around 220 km). At the end of the village, at the sign, which marks name of the settlement, we drive on a narrower asphalt road with small sign Porzehutte towards the south. After a good kilometer asphalt ends. Good macadam road runs by the stream Dorfbach to the lake Klapf, on Saturdays and Sundays to the hut. If the road is closed, is from the lake to the hut around hour of walking on a comfortable footpath which in few hairpin turns ascends over wide pastures.
In distance longer is access through the valley Drautal past Spittal, Lienz and Sillian, but the road is little wider.

Path description:
From the mountain hut, we go towards the notch Porze, at first slightly downwards on a footpath, overgrown with lush vegetation. All the time we follow well-marked path. At the crossroad with the path which joins from the lake Klapfsee, we continue right, and at the next crossroad Carnic high mountain path branches off to the right towards the mountain hut Filmoor below Großer Kinigat. Our path goes in slope, adorned by diverse alpine flowers and mighty power line. In moderate ascent we reach notch Porze (scharte) between Rosskarspitze (2511 meters) and Porze (2599 meters). In the notch is on 2363 meters small chapel, and remains of barbed wire telling about war. Signs lead on a secured path (Avstriasteig) in limestone wall. The path follows natural passages and shorter gullies, towards the summit winding also on broken rocky slope and short grassy slope, all the time for morale and safety (on some more crumbly spots) it is equipped with a steel cable and marked. When we come on the ridge, we follow a narrow crumbly gravel footpath which steadily and not too steeply rising on the south side with flowers vegetated ridge to the top. On the summit, there are two crosses. On the highest point is provisional cross, on neighbouring, few meters lower boulder with cavern is huge memorial (peace) cross with signs in more languages and inscription book. On the summit Austrian path meets with Italian, which comes from the saddle Tilliacher Joch / Forcela Dignas. Both paths are detour of Carnic high mountain path which runs on the north side below the walls. A view is appropriate for altitude and neighbouring mountains.
From the mountain hut Porze around 2 hours to 2 hours and a half.
The path to the notch is an easy marked path, and ferrata partly demanding marked path.
