Access to starting point:
From highway Ljubljana - Jesenice we go to the exit Lesce and follow the road towards Bled, Bohinjska Bistrica, Ribčev Laz and ski slope Vogel and further to the mountain hut below the waterfall Savica. We park on a large settled parking lot, where parking fee has to be paid.
Path description:
The path from the mountain hut at Slap Savica to the mountain hut Dom na Komni runs through the forest, on former military mule track, where mountaineers between turns made a lot of shortcuts, but it still takes from 2 to 2.5 hours of walking.
If we take for next starting point Dom na Komni, from there we go in the direction of signs for Vogel, then after approx 10 minutes of walking at the first crossing we go towards the mountain pasture Govnjač (on a sign 30 min). On more or less abandoned mountain pasture Govnjač there are still some remains and ruins of former military hinterland buildings from the first world war. There we will notice some red signposts, and for our continuation are important those for »Mahavšček« (Veliki Bogatin). First option is marked as Mahavšček (shortcut), but is quite overgrown, so that on more comfortable normal route over mountain pasture we come almost equally quickly into a small valley below unnamed peak with survey point 1792 meters and behind it peak Rob 1884 meters.
From this small valley we have more options: to stick on a marked path for Mahavšček, which at first leads upwards through a small valley parallel with a ridge chain of mountains and on a saddle Kser (1900 meters) joins the ridge the marked path of Bohinj mountains, or on more or less visible footpaths and pathless terrain (demanding because of orientation) we go directly upwards towards Vrh Planje and on a smaller saddle right from the peak, or just on more distinct saddle Planja (more demanding, easier to go astray) between Vrh Planje and Tolminski Kuk.
On marked ridge path are views wonderful, both right on Tolmin side, and even nicer left, which reach even much further from Spodnja Komna, towards the mountains southwest from Triglav. The ascent on Tolminski Kuk from the western side is quite steep and strenuous, the path runs more to the right, through rocky areas, left is extensive scree. Kuk is very panoramic and highest mountain of Spodnje Bohinjske gore, but already to here we will from Dom na Komni need good 3 hours on shortcut and direct path on a saddle Planja and around 4.5 hours on a marked longer path and over Kser.
From Tolminski Kuk ahead we descend a little, then ascend and we quickly come on nice and ample Zeleni vrh, which is on the top actually green. And from here we can already view towards Podrta gora and from this - western side its secondary peak named Mali vrh. The marked path from Zeleni vrh brings us on the saddle between Zeleni vrh and Mali vrh, after that runs further on the south slopes below peaks (Mali vrh, Podrta Gora, Vrh Konte and unnamed peak) towards the saddle Škrbina.
From the saddle between Zeleni vrh and Mali vrh, we go on a ridge on pathless terrain direct upwards towards Mali vrh, which we reach in quarter of an hour. In steepness we are looking for the best passages, there aren't any special problems or barriers. There isn't any visible or beaten footpath, terrain is more crumbly and rocky than grassy, north side is highly precipitous, and south nicer and less dangerous. From Mali vrh we at first descend a little, then towards Podrta gora at first shows short and sharp small ridge and from its northern side about 6 meters high mountain wall or plate (with intermediate stand), which offers enough holds and spots, that we can climb it from this side (I - II, approx 6 meters, 60⁰), dangerous mainly because of exposure. If you are not used of this, detour on the south side and a little lower from the ridge is also possible and much easier.
When we climb the wall, we step out on a small ridge below the western side of Podrta gora, which is at the top about a meter wide, and from there we go at first a little right upwards and in two or three zig-zags (50 meters) in easy climbing we overcome the steep and crumbly continuation, where it isn't exposed anymore. Next follows upper, less steep part. On the summit of Podrta gora is a smaller metal pole with engraved caption (for stamp): Podrta gora 2061 meters.
From Tolminski Kuk over Zeleni Vrh and Mali Vrh to Podrta gora is approx a little less than 1 hour of walking.
For the descent is recommended to return on Mali vrh on the same path, even though climbing from the ridge over rocky plate or wall without protecting (20 meters of climbing rope is enough and approx 3 meters for sling) I do not recommend. If you don't have this, is it is better to from a small saddle between the peak and ridge descend on the south side and there look for appropriate passages to a marked path.
A descent from Podrta gora on the eastern ridge is more demanding, longer and more exposed, we are avoiding problems on the south side, we come on a saddle below Vrh Konte, from where follows logically continuation on the sharp ridge on Vrh Konte, a barriers and difficulty (at least II) demand here appropriate knowledge and more skills and experience at ridge crossing.
In case if we want to do a circular path, we can continue towards the saddle Škrbina (1910 meters) (crossing of multiple marked paths), and from there we turn left downwards. The marked path leads below Vrh nad Škrbino to the spot, where joins the path from the saddle Konjsko sedlo from the direction Vogel, if we continue ahead on a marked path around Mohor (1847 meters), meanwhile with beautiful views of Lake Bohinj, we will need over abandoned mountain pasture Za Migovcem back on Komna approx 3 hours, so all together around 8-9 hours, and an hour less, if on pathless terrain left from Mohor you choose shortcut downwards (on map marked Tolminska lakev, where otherwise in the winter time run ski touring paths) into a small valley Krošnja, where then on a clearing you join a marked path: Vogel - Govnjač. At this choice applies a warning on very demanding pathless terrain and overgrowth with high dwarf pines, therefore in the summer and snowless I do not recommend it.
On the way: Dom na Komni mountain hut (1520m), Planina Govnjač (1474m), Kser (1900m), Vrh Planje (1971m), sedlo Planja (1874m), Tolminski Kuk (2085m), Zeleni vrh (2052m), Mali vrh (2015m), Vrh Konte (2014m), sedlo Škrbina (1910m)
