Access to starting point:
A) First, we drive to Kamnik, and then we continue driving in the direction of the Črnivec pass. Just a few hundred meters before the mentioned pass we notice signs for Kranjski Rak, which point us sharply left onto a narrow and at first also quite steep road. The road levels out higher up and then brings us to the Volovljek pass, where near the inn Kranjski Rak we also park (parking in front of the inn is only for guests).
B) From Gornji Grad we drive towards Kamnik, then just a few hundred meters after the Črnivec pass we continue right in the direction of Kranjski Rak. Further, we follow the above description.
C) From the Savinja Valley we first drive to Luče, and then we continue driving towards Kamnik. When we reach the Volovljek pass we park at a suitable spot near the inn Kranjski Rak (parking in front of the inn is only for guests).
Route description:
From Kranjski Rak we continue on a macadam road in the direction of Velika planina. The road at first slightly descends, and then passes into the forest, where it starts moderately ascending. After approximately half an hour of walking, we come to a somewhat larger crossroad, where we continue right in the direction of Konjščica and mountain pasture Dol (straight or slightly left mountain pasture Kisovec). The road then brings us to a large parking lot (possible starting point), and we continue on the forest road which is closed to public traffic. From the parking lot we follow the mentioned road for approximately 10 minutes, and then blazes point us left onto a grassy slope, over which a relatively steep path leads. Soon the path flattens for a short time, and on the right side bypasses a lonely shepherd hut. Behind the hut the path passes into the forest and starts ascending steeply. Higher, we join a wider and less steep path from the mountain pasture Marjanine njive. We follow the mentioned path to the left, which quickly brings us out of the forest onto the grazing areas of Mala planina. Here the path completely flattens and after a few minutes of further walking brings us to a marked but in fog poorly visible junction. We continue slightly left and after less than 10 minutes of further walking we arrive at the Črnuški dom on Mala planina.

So as not to endanger yourself and others, with summer tires better stay in the valley.

Some remarks on the description; no sense in parking already before the guesthouse, because then there's still a long road to the start, and you arrive all dusty. Best to park at the signpost (pic4), and take the path to the top on the left side (towards planina Kisovec), not right as in the description. Left goes through the forest, right mostly on a stony path. Suitable for quite small children. At the top it's wonderful, herdsmen's huts, livestock wandering freely, grass like on a golf course. Cars spoil the impression though, the top is busy like a highway, there are even idiots parking on the pasture, stepping out in flip-flops. We were on the planina on Saturday 21 August, crowds of people. Many drive up to the hut for lunch. They urgently need a barrier somewhere on the road to the planina. Probably much nicer during the week.

Traffic regulation on VP is really critical. Otherwise, I don't understand people who drive directly to VP. As long as there are few such fools OK, but imagine how beautiful the planina would be if all fools drove right to the top? Traffic could be stopped already at Kranjski Rak. At latest at the junction shown in pic 4. For those unable to walk this path, I recommend using the cable car and chairlift. Control on VP is poor. There is a barrier but it's always open. Why? I don't know. VP needs to be regulated as a national park, introduce supervisors etc. Meanwhile pave the road to VP the other way, build hotels and spa centers and all other unnecessary luxury infrastructure that attracts people seeking quasi-nature and its beauty.

I completely agree that something needs to be done to preserve nature. The only criticism I would give to the statement: "to all who are not able to walk this path........" is that many older people in their lifetime may have walked much more mountains than you or I. Today they can't even walk five meters, but they still love the mountains immensely. We should allow such people to drive as high as possible, so their eyes can feast, they can reminisce, and their hearts can fill with joy. At least I hope that my children or even grandchildren will bring me as close as possible to the gray rocks when I myself can no longer take the path.
