Planina Storeča raven - Vogel (below the slopes of Orlove glave)

Access to starting point:
From highway Ljubljana - Jesenice we go to the exit Lesce and follow the road towards Bled and forward towards Bohinjska Bistrica and lake Bohinj. After the settlement Laški Rovt we will get to a smaller crossroad, where the road which leads towards the starting point of the path on Rodica, mountain pasture Suha, Šija, Vogel... and scout camp Laški Rovt branches off to the left. Macadam road immediately passes into the forest and at first ascend past the mentioned scout camp, and then it is few kilometers relatively steeply ascending. After a little less than 6.5 km of driving on a macadam, we will get to a little bigger crossroad, where we continue right (straight about 50 meters ahead a starting point of the path towards the mountain pasture Suha, Rodica, Šija...). Further, we drive on a little worse road which crosses few torrents and eventually brings us to the mountain pasture Storeča raven. On the other side of the mountain pasture, the road returns into the forest, after that only few 100 meters ahead brings us to the right turn in the middle of which cart track branches off to the left, by which we notice signs for Vogel (on a cart track leads a marked footpath on Vogel). We park about 20 meters ahead on an appropriate place by the road.
From the main road to the starting point, there is approximately 9 km of the macadam.

Path description:
From the road, we go on a cart track in the direction of Vogel, which at the beginning reminds on a little smaller torrent. After an initial gentle ascent, the path brings us on a clearing behind which cart track turns into a footpath which starts ascending steeply. The path ahead runs through a dense forest and is in some parts because of the fallen trees a little harder to follow. A little higher steepness suddenly decreases and then follows minute of walking on flat. The path ahead brings us to area, where was larger avalanche and broken many trees. When we get over this part, the path turns right below the steep slopes of Storeči vrh and again steeply ascends. Ahead steepness decreases and the path brings us on the edge of the ski slope. We cross a lane of stones and we come to triangular crossing, where we continue right in the direction of the cableway. Only a little further, we come on a wide cart track, where we continue left but only few meters. Soon blazes point us to the right on a footpath which in a gentle ascent quickly brings us to the upper station of the cable car.
Further, we continue past the hotel and only few meters ahead notice signs for mountain hut Merjasec. We go slightly left and in few steps we come to the mountain hut.
At the mountain hut, we go on the path in the direction of Vogel, Šija and Rodica. The path at first starts slightly descending on a ski track, and then it brings us on a small indistinct saddle, where the path branches off to the right towards Zlatorog. We continue left on a bad road, where there aren't any marks, and we run into a blazes a little further. Cart track road starts ascending and is turning slightly right. A little further, the cart track has a crossroad but left steep and right gentle quickly join. Then on the right side we notice a cross, where a worse road flattens and it brings us to the crossing on a smaller plateau.
We go straight in the direction of Šija and we continue slightly upwards still on a transport road. A little further signs for Vogel and Šija point us to the right on a footpath which soon brings us to the spot, where we cross a ski track. Here is also a crossing, where we go right in the direction of Komna. The left path goes on Šija and Vogel below the slopes of Šija.
Our path now without large ascents and descents crosses slopes below Orlove glave. And the path soon brings us to an unmarked crossing, where we go right on the lower path. The path ahead still crosses slopes, and then it start descending and turns a little to the right so that it seems, that we go wrong. A at the spot, where we are almost sure, that we are wrong we join the path from the upper station of two-seater chairlift Zadnji Vogel. We go left and we descend a little more. After that, the path gets a good pace and starts slightly ascending. A little further, we come to a crossing, where a signpost for Vogel points us to the left upwards. The path here starts ascending and over the scree brings us on notch Škrbina, which is the lowest point between Primorska and Gorenjska from Mangart to Črna Prst (if we don't count Vršič).
On the notch Škrbina, where joins the path below the slopes of Šija a view opens up on Primorska. We continue right on the ridge, which is exposed steeply upwards. Next follows the hardest part of the path, we cross a short precipitous ledge without fixed safety gear. Ahead we cross a gully, after that problems vanish. Below the upper slope of Vogel we cross the scree, and then the path ascends on grassy slopes to the saddle between Vogel and Vrh Krnic. From the saddle to the top then follows five more minutes of walking on panoramic undemanding ridge.
