Access to starting point:
From the Ljubljana-Jesenice motorway, we take the Podtabor exit (Tržič, Ljubelj), then continue driving towards Ljubelj. After approximately 6 km of driving from the petrol station at Bistrica pri Tržiču, we leave the main road, as the signs for Podljubelj direct us right onto a local road. Only a little further, we arrive at the next junction, where we continue right and then, after a few tens of metres, park at a suitable place in the middle of the village.
Route description:
From the starting point, we walk to the primary school in Podljubelj, where at the junction we continue left in the direction of Kal and Kofce. The path initially follows a macadam road, which ascends moderately along the Jezernica stream. When, a few minutes higher, the road makes a longer right bend, we leave it and continue slightly left on a wide and marked cart track. The cart track or poorer road ends somewhat higher at the ruinous house, and we continue on the poorer cart track, which enters the forest. For a short time we still ascend on the right side of the stream, then we cross it and move to the left side. A little further, we arrive at another stream, along which we ascend to the nearby homestead. We bypass the house on the right side, and then immediately behind it to the left. A few metres higher, the blazes direct us right onto a grassy slope, along the edge of which we ascend to the nearby wooden hut. Here the path turns slightly left and a little further crosses the pasture fence. For some time the poorly visible path continues across the pasture straight upwards, then, when we leave the pasture, it enters the forest and somewhat higher crosses a cart track. We continue straight past a larger rock and continue the ascent in the direction of Kal. The path continues along a smaller valley and occasionally ascends more steeply. Higher, we reach a cart track, along which we quickly exit the forest and ascend to the nearby Zavetišče na Kalu.
From the shelter we continue along the macadam road, where we soon arrive at a marked junction, where the "direct" path to Dom na Kofcah branches left; we continue straight and further along the macadam road. Higher (just a little after the quarry) we leave the road, as the blazes direct us slightly left onto a footpath, along which we first ascend steeply, then traverse upwards to the right. Somewhat further, we reach the second forest road, which we merely cross as the signs for Dom na Kofcah - past the chapel direct us onto a wide cart track. After a few metres of ascent we continue on the right cart track, along which we soon arrive at Mrzli studenec. Behind the spring the path briefly enters the forest, then leads us to a clearing, along the edge of which stands a larger chapel.
From the chapel we continue left into the forest, through which we ascend to the nearby pasture fence. When we cross the pasture fence the path partly disappears, but if we continue along the slope slightly to the left, we will reach the mountain hut Dom na Kofcah without major difficulties.
