Access to starting point:
From the highway Ljubljana - Jesenice, we take the exit Kranj - east and follow the road ahead in the direction of Jezersko. In Zgornjem Jezerskem, only a little behind the gas station, we will notice a road which branches off to the right from the main road (direction Planšarsko jezero). The road then leads us past the mentioned lake and behind it steeply ascends for a short time. Higher up, the road flattens and at the beginning of a large meadow loses the asphalt surface. We then follow the macadam road to a larger marked parking lot.
Route description:
From the parking lot, we continue on the macadam road following the signs »Češka koča, Ledine« and after approximately 15 minutes of walking, we come to a cargo cableway.
At the cableway, the path goes behind the bottom station of the cableway in the direction of Češka koča and at first gently ascends on a wide path, which in a few minutes brings us to a larger clearing. The path across this clearing is usually quite muddy, so be careful. After 20 minutes of walking, the path brings us to an indistinct little ridge, where there is a bench. The path then continues through the forest and after another 20 minutes brings us to a junction, where the path from the meadow (lower starting point) joins from the right. We continue left and already after a few more steps we reach the next junction, where the path from Makekove Kočne (neighbouring valley) joins from the right. The path then leaves the forest onto scenic slopes, where with the help of some steel cables and a ladder we ascend towards Češka koča (Hudičevi klanci). This part of the path when dry is not difficult and does not pose a greater danger (greater caution is needed in late autumn when the gullies are icy and in winter when there is snow). The path then flattens and brings us to Mrzla dolina (1500m), where cold air often lingers. Only a moderate ascent of about 5 minutes follows and the path brings us to Češka koča na Spodnjih Ravneh.

Most huts that are closed over winter open in June. You can find information on when a particular hut is open on the PZS (Alpine Association of Slovenia) pages, which also have other useful data. On the hiking map the path is marked as demanding. The classification "easy, demanding, very demanding" is given in the guidebooks. Before heading into the mountains it is essential to acquire some hiking maps and guidebooks and study them calmly at home, then decide on tours based on the information obtained and in accordance with one's own assessment of fitness and knowledge. Currently conditions in the hills are wintery, now is just the right time for "study" at home, and when conditions are more "friendly" - happy trails!

Today was a beautiful day at Češka koča, it was worth the little struggle for such a view, I recommend having good fitness though because there is still a lot of snow.

Hi!
At the beginning of May we plan to go to Češka koča with a group of hikers aged 9 and 10 years old. Is the path dangerous due to snow? Do we need to bring winter gear? Thanks, LP zmeden
Gost22. 04. 2007
when exactly does the hut open? Thanksnasmeh

Can someone tell me if the path is too demanding if you have a child in a backpack. Thanks
Gost3. 05. 2007
If there is no snow, there are no major problems. Just some caution is needed on the ladder ascent, which is short though.

Brane V.-Up the usual path, back via the Žrela bypass. Nice, short tour, suitable also for every afternoon.

Has anyone been to the Češka koča recently?
I'm interested if there's still any snow up there, planning to go with a 6-year-old child.

thanks for the reply, and best regards
tonek729. 05. 2008
the path is already snow-free, suitable also for children, quite a few have been up there this year already, so I think there are no such obstacles. Cheers

Yesterday my wife and I were at the Češka koča. The path is dry, as is the area around the hut. Higher towards Zgornje Ravne there is still quite a bit of snow. The hut is still closed, except during OSNP.
benedičič30. 05. 2008
thanks for the replies, I'll probably go up this weekend best regards

Was at the Češka hut on 03.07.2008. Lots of visitors. Really suitable for any time of day. The weather was really nice.

I don't know how the author came to mark this path as easy, since it's marked as difficult in the guidebook. Personally, I'd mark it as partially difficult, as the upper part can be quite challenging for an inexperienced hiker, the lower part in today's conditions especially for descent unpleasant because extremely slippery.
But the path is pleasant and given the length really suitable for an afternoon trip.
We met a huge number of people on the path, but in the hut there wasn't any special crowd.nasmeh

On August 13, we were at the Češka koča. The weather was nice and hot, and the path is excellent in such weather, and I think it's also safe. I would classify it as easy and especially pleasant. In rain or after it, no path in the mountains is completely safe.

Has anyone been to the Czech hut, I'm interested if there's still any snow and when the hut opens?

HEY, Today I went past (Koča na Ledinah) checked out the Czech hut and noticed 4 hikers refreshing on the terrace,.. Češka koča na Spodnjih Ravneh, 1542m, OSNP on nice weekends - call the caretaker 040-673-449; 04/25-41-161 or. tone.karnicar@siol.net. To both huts it's dry, 200 m higher there's still quite some snow, it's south-facing and no problem crossing. LP

thanks for the info

To the Češka koča I went via Žrela. It goes in the direction of the Slovenska pot - that is the climbing path to Ledine. At the rocks turn right towards Mali Žrel. There is quite some steepness, and also some wire ropes. It takes the same one hour as via the usual cargo cable car path. It is an interesting variant of access to the hut. Worth trying, because on the usual path there is too much crowd. In the hut friendly as always. They have a good košutnik!

Does anyone know if Češka koča is still open on weekdays?
rozka4. 10. 2010
Hi, the hut is open only on weekends now, but there's always the nice winter room open up theresmile, lp
tonek718. 10. 2010
due to fallen snow, the hut will no longer be regularly supplied this year
on Sunday 15cm fell and the forecast ahead is rather poor too, sun will shine on our plains again in March next year..........all hut lovers be careful on the path, you can rest in the winter room, please close it behind you.......happy trails supplier ToneK

For this starting point (also for Vadine and other routes in this valley) the traffic regime has changed and you no longer park at the cargo cable cars but a bit lower (10min walk). Yesterday morning it was still quite cold (8h). Dry in the forest, sometimes ice hides under the leaves so a bit of caution is not too much. When the path comes out of the forest into the open, there is hard frozen snow on the path - recommend crampons. Snow was all the way to Češka koča. On the way back to the valley (12h) the snow on sunny slopes was quite softened - the sun does its thing.
Inhumed28. 08. 2016
Just this - in the access description to the starting point it says that the junction towards Planšarsko jezero is "just a little after the pump", which is not quite true, it's actually 1.5 km further. Otherwise no problem, but for those who are in Jezersko for the first time, this info might slightly confuse them nasmeh
sirt128. 08. 2016
Just this - you write 1.5 km further, which is not quite true, it's actually 1.3 km. Otherwise no problem, but those who strictly watch the counter this info can really confuse them! mežikanje
Enka28. 08. 2016
I think the comment is quite appropriate. I also searched a bit for the junction when I was in these areas for the first time jezik
mia_spela16. 10. 2017
How is the sun on Češka koča at this time? Approximately when does it shine on the hut or how long is it present considering it's closed to the south?
Thanks!
branco26. 10. 2018
We were at the Češka koča yesterday, I think the hut doesn't see the sun until noon.. for the afternoon I wouldn't know

Hello,
I'm wondering if there's a lot of snow on the path and if the path is suitable for a dog at this time?
Thanks for reply.
TinaHefe3. 09. 2022 14:51:39
Hello, interested if the path is also suitable for a dog? Thanks for reply and help.
ppegan3. 09. 2022 15:28:00
My dogs have all made it up so far without issues. The issue might be the lojtrca, if the dog isn't used to such obstacles, mine usually go over rocks here. Depends how accustomed the dog is to such terrain, chains, lojtras ...
So judging by my dogs, the path is suitable for a dog nasmeh

Great, thank you very much for the reply nasmeh

I was up there today. Hut is closed, no stamp.
Nada 029. 05. 2025 21:35:24
Could you please provide information on whether there is still any snow on the trail? Thank you🤗

has the shuttle timetable from Jezersko to Ravenska Kočna posted. They will also stop along the way if you want a ride.
LISAC21. 07. 2025 22:28:41
Not in the afternoon though...
rokeg22. 07. 2025 09:36:12
There could also be a bus to Jezersko, for all those who would like to visit it but don't have a car...
rokeg22. 07. 2025 12:03:25
Ah yes, from Kranj it goes, but absolutely too late for visiting e.g. Mrzla gora or Zeleni kup. I get really annoyed waiting for 5 buses to Jezersko eek

The path was great today going up, there's a little snow, nothing scary for everyone who's afraid, nothing to worry about here. I filmed the entire path up and down, the video will be on YouTube once I edit it, I'll attach the link here. Safe steps, the only thing that bothered me was no stamp anywhere in the winter room, shame.
