Tinčkova koča - Hochstuhl/Stol (via hunting cottage above Doslovška planina)

Access to starting point:
We drive into Žirovnica, and then we follow the signs for mountain hut Valvasorjev dom pod Stolom. When we get to a crossroad before lake Završniško jezero, from a crossroad we continue straight (left Valvasorjev dom pod Stolom) and further we drive on the left side of the lake. Next follows driving on a macadam road through the valley Završnica. Higher, at the smaller crossroad we continue straight, and then we drive all the way to the parking lot below the mountain hut Tinčkova koča. The last part of the road to the starting point is steeper and often also rough.

Path description:
At the beginning of the parking lot blazes point us to the left in the forest. After few meters, we come to a crossing, where the unmarked path on Stol branches off to the right (path over Zagon), and we continue left on a marked path and further mostly in a gentle ascent through the forest we cross pretty steep slopes, which in snow can be very dangerous for slipping, and also otherwise more caution is needed. Later, the path brings us to a cart track, where we continue left. When a little further we get to a wider cart track on an indistinct ridge, which marked path only crosses, and we continue on a cart track to the right (left Doslovška planina), on the nearby crossings we go on the left cart tracks. Higher, the cart track flattens, and then it brings us to a hunting cottage, from which a beautiful view opens up on part of Julian Alps.
Behind the hunting cottage path passes into the forest and at first continues without large changes in altitude. After few minutes, we get to a less noticeable crossing, where left path starts descending towards Stara planina, right, worse beaten path, on which we continue, starts ascending through the forest and partly is also vanishing. Even if we lose "right" path with orientation we won't have bigger problems, if we continue in the same direction. After a short ascent, we reach well visible path which leads from the upper part of Stara planina, and we follow it to the right. On easy to follow path we walk 2 to 3 minutes, and then we continue left on a little narrower, but easy to follow footpath, on which we continue the ascent. During the ascent, we get to a fallen tree, which is best to bypass on the left side. Quickly we return on a footpath, and there we ascend to a marked path Zabreška pot. A few minutes of ascent through the forest follows, and then we get on a bigger clearing, by the edge of which there is cottage Betonska bajta.
After the cottage signs for Stol point us to the right, in the forest, where we immediately notice the sign, which asks us to carry a log to the mountain hut Prešernova koča. Further for a short time, we walk through the forest and then past a pleasant benches "počitek pri Janezu" we get to the left turn, where only few steps before a turn, from the right joins worse beaten unmarked footpath from the mountain hut Tinčkova koča. From a turn ahead we are ascending diagonally through a lane of dwarf pines, on more scenic path, from which beautiful views are opening up towards Gorenjska and Julian Alps. Higher, the path again turns right, then past Finžgarjeva skala brings us on a grassy plain, where the marked path turns left and passes on the upper southeast slope of Mali Stol. Further, we are ascending on the path, from which really nice views are opening up towards the east, and we with views, which reach also on Julian Alps, in approximately 30 minutes of additional ascent, we ascend to the mountain hut Prešernova koča.
From the mountain hut, we can in a minute of additional walking ascend also on Mali Stol. From Mali Stol follows a descent in a small valley, which is located between the both peaks of Stol and from there we continue straight (right Ljubelj, mountain hut Celovška koča...) again in the direction of Stol. Next follows approximately 10 minutes ascent and the path without any bigger technical problems brings us on the highest peak of Karawanks.
