The proposed itinerary, consisting of a long mid-slope traverse and a short final ascent, is never very tiring and presents no orientation problems. From the Campo Imperatore hotel, the astronomical observatory is reached, then turn left to take the evident trail that continues mid-slope sharply cutting the slopes of Monte Portella. Continue on the always evident trail, ignoring the descending trail to Fonte Portella, until reaching the deep fissure of Passo Portella. Instead of crossing the pass, continue along the ridge to the left to continue the long traverse to Pizzo Cefalone. Some ridges and very easy ledges are crossed, but quite exposed, where care must be taken with small children.
