Description:
The Pentumas Via Ferrata, although shorter than others in Sardinia, is always challenging due to a 15-meter vertical where you pull yourself up using force on an uncomfortable chain (on this occasion we used minitraxion assistance). Despite a recent good re-equipment, it still challenges many hikers. It winds through the walls on the left orographic bank of the majestic Pentumas Gorge, near a fabulous amphitheater. Unlike other Sardinian via ferratas, it is in the heart of Supramonte and thus offers magnificent panoramas of the surroundings, including Valle di Lanaittu. The Pentumas Gorge is one of the most interesting Sardinian (dry) canyons, as it is entirely traversable from upstream with ropes and harnesses facing a long series of verticals. On this occasion we combined the via ferrata with the adjacent Cengia Su Piggiu Longu (the great balcony). We covered the short most characteristic section, protected by a dangerous steel cable, then exited onto the ridge via an old characteristic 'iscalas 'e fustes'. The ledge continues upstream almost to the rocky outcrop marked on the map as Punta Duavidda. Then, once downstream, we returned to the cars via Troccu de Corrojos, the final section of the great long Codula S'Ozzastru. Along its course there are some small verticals that before the 2004 flood were equipped to be overcome with fixed ropes and 'iscalas 'e fustes' (wooden ladders). Today, however, you need to have some ropes with you (the longest better 20 m) and for the last vertical it is better to wear harnesses.
