The mountain is wooded, covered with shrubs and low vegetation almost to the summit and particularly rocky, while on the eastern slope there is a small karst plateau at altitude (Pratone di Monte Gennaro). In past decades, a cable car connected the town of Palombara Sabina to the mountain summit. There are three CAI trails leading to the summit. The most frequented, with its 950 meters of elevation gain on a route just over 5 km to the summit, is trail no. 301 starting from the town of Marcellina, called 'Scarpellata', so named because it was carved into the rock to allow passage of pack animals. The other two CAI trails to the summit are 319, also 1000 meters of elevation gain, starting from Palombara Sabina and passing by the tower of Monte Morrone della Croce, and 305 which climbs to Gennaro from the underlying Pratone. From the summit, there is an exceptional 360° view: in addition to the other peaks of the Monti Lucretili including Monte Pellecchia, to the west one can see the towns of Mentana and Monterotondo, the Monti Sabatini and the Roman countryside with the Tivoli-Guidonia Montecelio area and the Monti Cornicolani; to the northwest Monte Soratte and Monti Cimini; to the north Monti Sabini, Terminillo with the Reatini and, in the distance, the Sibillini. To the northeast are Monte Nuria, Monte Calvo, Pellecchia, Navegna and behind Monti della Laga and Gran Sasso; to the east the higher peaks of the Abruzzo Apennines: the mountain groups of Monte Cava, Montagne della Duchessa, Velino and Monti Carseolani. To the southeast appear Monti Simbruini and Monti Ruffi; to the south and southwest Monti Tiburtini, Monti Prenestini, Lepini and Colli Albani, as well as the Tyrrhenian Sea and Rome.
