Description:
Wow, well this could not have been a more perfect summer heat wave hike! The Big Pine Lakes are a popular hiking destination in the John Muir Wilderness/Eastern Sierras of California. But few venture beyond the Big Pine lakes to climb and scramble up to the Palisade Glacier, one of the last standing glaciers in California. Even fewer dare to scramble down the loose scree and onto the actual glacier itself! But there was no way we were going to miss out on an opportunity to hike across an actual glacier and then do a polar plunge into its icy waters! If that's not a true polar bear plunge, we don't know what is.
