Access to the spring, blocked for several years due to a large fallen log making the path impassable, has now been cleared (who knows whether by natural causes or the silent work of some good soul) and is easily reachable by anyone. Encountering this waterfall means discovering a unique naturalistic site: the copper-red color of the stones, due to the presence of iron (and “marcasite”) creates an unparalleled scene in other areas of Tuscia, worthy of being known by all, Viterbese and tourists. The water reaches the purple boulders from the Colle di San Francesco, opposite and adjacent to the Colle di Pianicara, where the wonderfully preserved Roman city of Ferento rises. The spring is called “hypothermal” for its water temperature (around 22°), and the water is composed of 99% carbonic acid.
