Drnulk - Vrh Skopice

Access to starting point:
A) First, we drive to Idrija, and then we continue driving towards Tolmin. When we get to Dolenja Trebuša we leave the main road and continue driving left towards Čepovan. At the next crossroad, where the road to Oblakov Vrh branches off to the left, we continue right and drive ahead past the church in Dolenja Trebuša. A bit higher, the road again splits into two parts. This time we continue slightly right (slightly left Gorenja Trebuša), we cross the river Trebuščica and then we start steeply ascending towards the mountain pass Drnulk. After the mountain pass, the macadam road starts descending and after a few tens of meters of additional driving brings us to a smaller crossroad by which we park. At the starting point are signs for Vrše and Skopica. From the inn Gostilna Podkorito in Dolenja Trebuša to the starting point, there is approximately 8.5 km of driving.
B) From Most na Soči or Podbrdo we drive to Bača pri Modreju, and then we continue driving towards Postaja and further towards Čepovan. Initially, the quite steep road flattens higher up and brings us to Čepovanski dol. Here the road continues for some time without major changes in altitude, and then, still before we get to the center of the settlement, brings us to a crossroad, where a road branches off to the left towards the mountain pass Drnulk and Dolenja Trebuša. We continue towards the mountain pass Drnulk and follow the road for approximately 2 km, or to the crossroad, where a worse forest road branches off to the left towards the pasture Vrše. We park in an appropriate place by the crossroad. From Postaja to the starting point, there is approximately 14 km.
C) First, we drive to Nova Gorica or to Solkan, and then we continue driving towards Lokve, Grgar, Čepovan and Sveta gora. A little above the quarry, we get to a crossroad, from where we continue driving towards Grgar and Čepovan. Further, the road brings us to Čepovanski dol, through which it continues slightly to moderately ascending. A little further ahead, we get to the center of the settlement Čepovan, but we follow the road through Čepovanski dol only to the next crossroad. At the crossroad, we continue right towards the mountain pass Drnulk and Dolenja Trebuša and follow the road for approximately 2 km, or to the crossroad, where a worse forest road branches off to the left towards the pasture Vrše. We park in an appropriate place by the crossroad. From Solkan to the starting point, there is approximately 20 km.
D) From the direction of Ajdovščina we first drive to Predmeja, and then we continue driving towards Lokve and further towards Čepovan. From Lokve, the road starts descending more steeply towards Čepovan. In Čepovan we continue right and then at the end of the compact part of the settlement again right, this time in the direction of the mountain pass Drnulk and Dolenja Trebuša. We continue towards the mountain pass Drnulk and follow the road for approximately 2 km, or to the crossroad, where a worse forest road branches off to the left towards the pasture Vrše. We park in an appropriate place by the crossroad. From Predmeja to the starting point, there is approximately 19 km.

Path description:
From the crossroad near the mountain pass Drnulk, we head onto the worse forest road in the direction of Veliki Vrši and Mali Vrši and Skopica. The road soon ascends more steeply and takes us into the forest. Higher up, the road flattens, and the path brings us out of the forest onto ample and occasionally panoramic pastures of Veliki Vrši. At the junction, where the worse road turns right, we continue left in the direction of SVPB (Slovenian partisan military hospital Pavla) and Mali Vrši. We continue along a gradually deteriorating cart track, which ends definitively at the nearby ruins of the former residential house. The path ahead leads us past a beech avenue to a larger panoramic meadow, at the end of which we turn slightly left.
Next, we cross a grazing fence, and the path leads us into the forest, where we notice the first blazes (the path until now was only signposted, but not blazed). When we enter the forest, the path transitions from a small plateau onto slopes and continues diagonally to the right. There follow a few shorter ascents and descents, then we arrive at the ruins of the former partisan hospital Pavla. Here at the smaller junction, we continue right and after a few tens of meters arrive at the information board and the nearby NOB monument.
A little further from the information board, we step onto a newer forest road, which we follow to the right. The path ahead leads us past a meadow with a hunting observation post, and after a few tens of meters of further walking we arrive at a small saddle, where the path to Vrh Skopice branches off to the right. We continue along the mountain path, along which in 2 minutes of further walking we reach the panoramic summit.
From the summit, we can also descend along the ridge to the nearby viewpoint, from which we get an even nicer view into the valley.
