Access to starting point:
From the border crossing Šentilj we continue driving on the highway towards Gradec / Graz and forward towards Linz and Salzburg. Highway A9 we soon leave and continue driving slightly right towards Vienna / Wien, continuing on expressway S35. Near the settlement Bruck an der Mur, we leave expressway S35 and follow signs for the mentioned settlement. From the nearby roundabout, we take the first exit and follow signs for the town Kapfenberg. Still in the town Bruck an der Mur, at the traffic light intersection, we turn left towards Trägoß and St. Katharein, following tourist signs for Grüner See. Next follows approximately 23 km of driving and we arrive at the settlement Oberort, where from the crossroads in the middle of the settlement, we turn left. Further, we drive past a larger parking lot and the inn Seehof beim Grünen See, bypassing lake Grünen See on the left side. At the lake, the road begins to ascend more steeply, higher up it becomes a macadam road, and a little further it flattens and then gradually starts descending. The path ahead leads us past the intermittent lake Pfarrerlacke, and then we arrive at the marked parking lot at Ferienheim, where the described path begins.
Path description:
From the parking lot, we head left onto a side road, marked with signs for the Lamingsattel saddle, Lamingalm mountain pasture, and Leobner Hütte mountain hut. Nearby, we bypass the holiday house on the right side, and behind the house, we turn right, where a narrower gravel road leads us past a football field. Behind the football field, we turn left (right leads to Pfarreralm, also an option for a starting point) and continue along an initially gently sloping gravel road. The path ahead leads us along a forest road, closed to public traffic, which begins to moderately ascend. A little further, when the road turns right, we leave it and continue straight onto a footpath that runs parallel to the Laming stream. Higher up, we return to the road but quickly leave it again, continuing along a marked shortcut. When we rejoin the road, we reach it at a small crossroad, then proceed along a marked road that soon leads us to a hunting cottage, which we bypass on the left side.
Above the cottage, the road turns into a cart track, and the path higher up crosses the gravel road a few more times. Next, we cross a torrent stream, then reach the Lamingalm mountain pasture, where a beautiful view of the surrounding mountains opens up.
Cottage on the mountain pasture we bypass on the right side, and then we cross the torrent once again. We continue to follow the blazes and ascend moderately to steeply through an increasingly sparse coniferous forest. Higher up, the forest begins to thin out more and more, with larches increasingly prevailing over coniferous trees. As we approach the Lamingsattel saddle with beautiful views of the nearby mountain walls, the slope becomes steeper and the path splits. A shorter, quite steep path branches off to the left upward, but we can also continue straight ahead and take a longer detour. If we proceed along the gentler path, we cross a short, slightly exposed slope; after the exposed section, both paths merge, and we reach the Lamingsattel saddle, where there is a marked junction.
We continue left toward the Hochturm peak (straight downward Almhäuser, slightly right Leobner Hütte cottage, right Polster and TAC Spitze) and walk briefly along a ridge covered with dwarf pines; then the path transitions to a slope, ascending steeply, with dwarf pines still accompanying us along the way. Higher up, the path levels out and splits once again.
We choose the right path (straight Hochturm) and descend briefly through gentle grassy terrain to the route of a high-voltage power line, then begin ascending along and on the ridge of the Leobner Mauer peak. Higher up, the ridge is slightly exposed in a few spots, but the path is mostly routed a bit to the left, so there is generally no significant risk of slipping, except at two short sections. We then follow this path to the peak, which is a few minutes away.
