Krapina - Sušec (Strahinjščica) (put sedam zavoja)

Access to starting point:
We arrive in Croatia via the Gruškovlje / Macelj border crossing. Drive towards Zagreb, but only to the Đurmanec exit, where we leave the motorway. In the village at the roundabout, go towards Krapina. When we reach the railway crossing, turn left towards Podgora. Now we are in Krapina and go through the underpass of the Zagorje motorway and turn left again. Now follow this road (we will also notice markings along the way) all the way to the large parking lot next to the Ekovent factory, where we can park.

Path description:
From the parking lot we go uphill towards the east, aided by markings. Initially we walk on an asphalt road that first steeply, then gently ascends through the forest, higher through the village Strahinje. After about 20 minutes we spot the forest entrance marked by a tourist sign. Here, or along the road, there are a few more spots where we can leave the vehicle.
Our path steeply rises and soon turns right, crosses a stream and leaves the forest. Here we go left uphill on the usually muddy cart track along a longer clearing.
The cart track leads us to the forest, where it turns west. From here we quickly ascend in seven turns up the southern slope and via a quite steep path arrive at the mountain hut on Strahinjščica. Between the first and second turn is ten minutes, then the turns are every minute.
In the mountain hut, open on weekends, we can refresh or spend the night.
From the hut we go towards Gornje Jesenje, but only twenty meters, then quickly turn right back into the forest. The path first follows a wider track, then turns to a narrower path and becomes quite steep. On the steep section, slippery during and after rain, a wooden fence assists us. The steep path then brings us to the Dedek viewpoint.
From Dedek, also a suitable take-off for paragliders, a nice view opens to the south and west. For many hikers this is the final goal, we continue east. The path levels here and runs along the narrow ridge of Strahinjščica. On some exposed spots there is also a wooden fence.
The path temporarily leaves the ridge and runs along the southern slope, but when the ridge temporarily widens it returns to it. A little more walking follows and the path brings us to the summit.
At the very summit of Sušec there is a huge willow. No logbook (it's in the hut), just a stamp. Since the summit is overgrown with forest there is no view.
