Ladina - Sart / Žrd (via Bivacco Marussich)

Access to starting point:
Over the border crossing in Rateče we drive through Trbiž / Tarvisio. If we drive on the highway, we leave it at the exit for Tablja / Pontebba. We continue driving on the old road in the direction of Videm / Udine. In the settlement Na Bili / Resiutta we turn left towards the valley of Rezija (Val Resia). Further, we drive on a narrower asphalt road and follow the signs for the settlement Solbica / Stolvizza. In the settlement Solbica, we drive on a narrow road through the village center and follow the signs for the village Ladina. In the village Ladina, we drive straight through the village to the end of the road, where there are some marked parking spaces.
Access is also possible on a narrow and winding road through the border crossing Učja.

Path description:
From the parking lot, we head onto a footpath across a meadow. At the start of the path, we will notice a blaze and signs for the Sentiero di Matteo path. At the end of the meadow, we reach signposts that direct us to the right downward. The path here significantly descends toward the stream Rezija. Further on, we walk for some time alongside the mentioned stream and cross over a bridge, first the stream Laški potok and then the stream Rio Sart.
The path then ascends a steep slope above the stream, with some steel cables for assistance. The slope becomes less steep, and the path through the forest leads us to a crossing. We continue left on the marked path, while straight ahead leads the Sentiero di Matteo path.
Further, we ascend for some time through the forest, and the path leads us past a well-maintained chapel and later a memorial plaque. The path then runs above a wide gully, turns right higher up, and brings us to the mountain pasture Ta Na Kolce, where there are also a few cottages.
From the mountain pasture, we continue left and ascend again through the forest all the way to a mountain road just before the mountain pasture Ta Na Rawni. Here, we only cross the road and continue on the footpath, while to the left, a short ascent on the road leads to the mountain pasture Ta Na Rawni.
The path again leads through the forest, and a few more footpaths branch off to the left toward the mentioned mountain pasture. We slightly ascend through the forest, then the path leads us past a spring and brings us to a marked crossing.
Here, a path from the village Korito joins from the right, and we continue straight toward the bivouac Marussich. From the crossing, we ascend diagonally through the forest for some time in the direction of east. A few more times, we ascend in zig-zags, and then the path emerges from the forest onto steeper, mostly grass-covered slopes. Further, for quite some time, we cross steep slopes towards the east and slightly descend. The slopes are quite steep, so some caution is occasionally needed at the crossing. From the path, we otherwise have a nice view of the Rezija valley and surrounding peaks. Such a path then brings us to a marked crossing at pasture Planina Grubje (Casera Grubia).
To the right, a transverse path 642/a branches off downwards towards Planina Kanin (Casera Canin), but we continue straight in the direction of bivouac Marussich. We start ascending again on a mostly grassy slope with a view of the precipitous walls of Vrh Krnice and Visoki Kanin. Further, we ascend on such a slope for quite some time, mostly in long zig-zags. On such a path we then ascend all the way to the saddle Sella Grubia / Peravo, by which there is also a bivouac.
On the saddle where there is a marked crossing, we take path 632 in the direction of the cottage Ricovero Igor Crasso. From the crossing, the path starts ascending towards the west, but soon flattens and turns to the right northern side of Vrh Grubij. Considerably gentle path then brings us on nice high mountain meadow (Škrbina v Senožečah), where we leave mule track. We continue the ascent to the right and on a slightly less trodden path ascend to the ridge, where we continue the climb. The path ahead is steeply ascending on in parts slightly exposed ridge. After a half-hour ascent, we reach the peak Senožeče, which is a sort of secondary peak of Žrd. From here, a beautiful view also opens up towards our destination. A gentle descent follows on a faintly visible path that continues along a partly exposed ridge and is marked with red triangles. Ridge then from the left side slowly widens and the path after additional few minutes of ascent brings us on a panoramic peak.
