Losenheim (Parkplatz am Schneeberg) - Kaiserstein (Schneeberg) (via Schauerstein)

Access to starting point:
We leave the Austrian highway S6 at the exit for Neukirchen, then follow the signs for Ternitz, and from there continue along the road toward the settlement Puchberg am Schneeberg. In the settlement Puchberg am Schneeberg, we turn left toward the settlement Losenheim, and from there drive a bit further to a larger parking lot by the Schneeberg Sesselbahn cableway, where we park. The parking fee is 6 euros per day (September 2023).

Path description:
From the parking lot, we continue on the asphalt road, along which there are signs for the mountain huts Edelweißhütte and Almreserlhaus. A little further, the path splits, and we continue right in the direction of the mountain hut Edelweißhütte (left the mountain hut Bürkle Hütte) and proceed along the macadam road, from which we soon turn left onto a footpath that continues partly through the forest and partly alongside the ski track. Higher up, we leave the forest and reach the grazing slopes below the saddle Fadensattel, to which we ascend with beautiful views of the northern part of the mountain Schneeberg and the surrounding hills.
On the saddle, we cross a grazing fence and then continue left (right cottage Almreserlhaus - 2 minutes) and continue walking on a gentle wider cart track. In less than five minutes of additional walking, we reach a crossing before the cottage Edelweißhütte, near which a chairlift also arrives, and we continue right (straight to Klosterwappen via the demanding path Fadensteig) and in a few steps reach the cottage Sparbacherhütte.
We bypass the cottage on the right side and continue toward the cottage Kienthalerhütte, where we first cross a grazing fence, and in a few minutes reach a cart track, along which we descend diagonally toward the west. The cart track flattens lower down, and we soon veer slightly left onto a footpath that continues crossing the slopes in approximately the same direction. A little further, we reach a macadam road, which we follow left upward, and at the nearby crossroad, we go straight, following the trail markers. Next follows an ascent along the macadam road, from which beautiful views open up. Higher up, the road transitions from the slopes into an indistinct valley that separates the slopes of Schneeberg from the smaller plateau Kuhschneeberg, where the road leads us below the walls of the peak Schwarzkogel.
Higher up, the road flattens and brings us to a small saddle, where, by a small cottage with rescue sleds, we leave the road and continue left toward the cottages Kienthalerhütte and Fischerhütte and the peak Klosterwappen. We continue along a gently sloping mountain path that mostly leads through the forest; when the forest thins, we reach a marked crossing, where we continue left (straight to the cottage Kienthalerhütte).
We continue through a small valley, and the path soon splits.
This time, we continue left toward the cottage Fischerhütte (straight to the cottage Heinrich-Krempel-Hütte) and gradually begin to ascend steeply. Further on, we initially ascend through a sparse forest, and higher up through increasingly panoramic dwarf pines. Higher up, the dwarf pines end, and the path, which offers beautiful views especially when looking back, leads fairly straight uphill along the slope, making it relatively steep. Above 2000 meters of altitude, we reach a marked crossing where we join the shorter but more demanding path Fadensteig. Here, we continue right and, along a gently sloping path, reach the cottage Fischerhütte in two minutes of additional walking.
Before the cottage we continue sharply left and in a few minutes ascend to the scenic Kaiserstein.
