Pedrovo - Trstelj

Access to starting point:
A) From the Ljubljana-Koper highway, we take the Senožeče exit, then continue driving towards the village Štorje. In Štorje, we continue right towards Branik (straight Sežana and Trst) and further drive through the villages Kazlje, Dobravlje and Ponikve. At the crossroad a few kilometers after Ponikve, we continue right towards the village Kobdilj (left Kopriva and Dutovlje), from there we follow the signs for Štanjel and Branik. After a few kilometers of descent, we arrive in Branik, where we continue sharply left towards Komen. Further, we drive past castle Rihemberk (also castle Branik), then in the sharp left turn we leave the road towards Komen and continue driving right towards the village Pedrovo. From the mentioned crossroad, we drive approximately 2 km more, then park on the marked parking lot a little below the village.
B) First, we drive to Ajdovščina, then continue driving on the old road towards Nova Gorica. When we arrive at the settlement Potoče, we leave the main road and continue left towards the place Branik. The road quickly takes us to the bridge over the Vipava River, after which it gradually becomes more winding. After a short ascent, a shorter descent follows and we arrive in Branik. When we reach the main road, we continue left towards Koper and Sežana, but we drive on the mentioned road to the crossroad where slightly to the right the road to Komen branches off. Further, we drive past castle Rihemberk (also castle Branik), then in the sharp left turn we leave the road towards Komen and continue driving right towards the village Pedrovo. From the mentioned crossroad, we drive approximately 2 km more, then park on the marked parking lot a little below the village.
C) From Nova Gorica or its surroundings, we drive to Dornberk, from there continue driving towards Branik. In Branik, we leave the main road towards Sežana and continue slightly right towards Komen. Further, we drive past castle Rihemberk (also castle Branik), then in the sharp left turn we leave the road towards Komen and continue right towards the village Pedrovo. From the mentioned crossroad, we drive approximately 2 km more, then park on the marked parking lot a little below the village.
D) First, we drive to Komen, from there continue driving towards Branik. Towards Branik, we drive to the sharp right turn, where we turn left onto the local road towards the village Pedrovo. From the mentioned crossroad, we drive approximately 2 km more, then park on the marked parking lot a little below the village.

Path description:
From the parking lot, we continue on the road by which we quickly arrive at the church of the Holy Spirit in the village Pedrovo. When we arrive at the village, we continue through the village, then at the end of it we continue on a wide poorly marked cart track that begins to ascend moderately. Further on, the cart track splits a few times, but we continue on the "main" one, i.e., the marked one (the blazes are occasionally quite rare). Higher up, we reach a worse road (firebreak - intervention road No. 14P), on which we begin to descend moderately. A little further, we pass from the slope into a smaller valley, where we continue right upwards on an initially less distinct cart track. The path ahead continues for a short time across a panoramic meadow, then quickly brings us to the abandoned Slavčeva bajta cottage. We bypass the mentioned cottage on the left side and continue on the poorly marked cart track, which ascends and descends a few times. At the junctions, we continue on the marked cart track, which eventually brings us to grassy slopes from which a beautiful view opens up all the way to the highest peaks of the Julian Alps. A somewhat steeper descent follows, and the path takes us to Železnih vrat, where we cross the asphalt road.
We continue on the macadam road in the direction of Trstelj, walking on it to the power line. Immediately after the power line, we leave the road and continue the ascent left on the marked path, which begins to ascend more steeply. After a few minutes, the path levels out and passes onto panoramic and relatively gentle shady slopes. The path quickly returns to the forest, and from the right the path from Renč joins us.
We continue left in the direction of the hut on the path, which soon splits into two parts. We continue slightly right on the marked shortcut, then join a poorer forest road, which we follow to the nearby Stjenkova koča on Trstelj.
From the hut, we continue right in the direction of the summit and continue the ascent on a pleasant path that ascends through a belt of sparse forest. Just a little higher, we join a wide cart track, on which after a few dozen steps of further walking we arrive at the summit of Trstelj.
