Rakitovec - Kavčič (on a cart track)

Access to starting point:
a) From the direction of Ljubljana:
From Primorska highway (A1) we leave at Črni Kal and go on the old main road towards the sea. After 3 km at a larger crossroads we turn left towards Hrastovlje and Croatian border and after 1 km once again like this. Through Kubed we come to Gračišče, where before the school building we turn left towards Rakitovec, to which signs lead us through Smokvica and Movraž. At the end of the slope we cross Pulj railway track and turn right 1 km towards the border crossing Rakitovec and 300 meters before the border crossing we turn left on a cart track and we park on a clearing approximately 2 km ahead.

b) From the direction of Koper:
From Koper we go on the old main road towards Ljubljana. In Rižana we turn right towards Hrastovlje and we stick to the main road towards the border - for the rest see above.

Path description:
From the clearing, we go on a cart track right (east) and after a few minutes we come to a junction with an overgrown forest path. We stay on the cart track, which goes upwards, and we do not leave it. The road starts first ascending in serpentines, then mostly with a gentle ascent leads towards the summit. Past the rocky cliff on the left after 100 meters of steep path we arrive at a cut in the living rock, whereby we enter the savanna landscape of the rim of unvegetated peaks. From there we can either head on the steep goat path left straight to the summit or continue another 15 minutes on the road and across meadows come to the summit. The peaks are domed and indistinct; we recognize the summit of Kavčič by the iron and wooden cross.
