I went to Kamniški vrh, namely from the direction of Kamnik. From Kamnik I drove towards the village STAHOVICA. From Kamnik on the main road you drive to Stahovica, namely 5 km. After five kilometers you reach the end of the village GODIC. Where the village GODIC ends, the village STAHOVICA begins. Immediately after the traffic sign »STAHOVICA« turn left (before the turnoff you will see a store and an inn on the left) in the direction of ŽUPANJE NJIVE (see the signpost). After 200 meters from this turnoff, there is another crossroad. To the right is ŽUPANJE NJIVE, and to the left is BISTRICICO. You turn left for BISTRICICO (there are still 2.6 km of driving ahead). You drive through the village BISTRICICA and when you reach the end of this village (see the traffic sign for the settlement) drive another 500 meters and on the right side you will see a bridge over the stream and also a red mountain signpost. Drive over the bridge and then park the vehicle immediately after the bridge on the left side (if there is space, of course). I don’t recommend driving a vehicle uphill towards the village SLEVO, because the road is quite steep and narrow and it can easily happen (especially if there are more people in the vehicle or you are not very skilled at driving on macadam) that the wheels will spin in place, damaging the road and facing you with the problem of reversing downhill. I did drive to the quarry, but I must say that I have many years of driving experience, including on macadam, I was alone in the vehicle, and the vehicle has a diesel engine. Therefore, I cannot specify how much time you will need to walk to the quarry, from where I continued. I think approximately 15 minutes. .
Path description:
From the quarry lead two paths. On one you go immediately after the quarry to the left (there you will also see a mountain signpost, which recommends this direction). On the second path you have to go right, namely from the quarry straight into the forest towards the hunting cottage. I set off on this path. In the description of this trip, we will call them the "left" and "right" path. The left is thus easier and marked, and the right is harder and unmarked, and the one I went on.
The right path to Kamniški vrh is quite steep almost all the time and also isn’t marked anywhere. So from the quarry, walk on an approximately 1.5-meter-wide path (it narrows to a width of 1 meter in some places) and do not stray from this path. You will come to one turn-off from this path, but at this turn-off, you should turn left upwards (the other part goes straight downwards, and you should not use it). I managed, after 20 minutes of walking from the starting point at the quarry, to reach the hunting cottage, where there are some structures (a bivouac, a hayrack, two cottages).
At the buildings belonging to the hunting cottage, turn sharply left (above the hayrack) and continue walking on a narrow "goat path," where there is only enough space for one hiker. Here you will also leave the forest, and around you there will be only meadow and low bushes. From the hunting cottage, I needed 10 minutes to reach a crossroads of "goat paths," where you meet the path coming from the easier, "left" direction and the path leading to Kamniški vrh. At this crossroads, we turn right, and after 5 minutes, you will arrive at a nice vantage point, where there is also a bench. If you haven’t rested yet, take a few minutes to rest and mainly to enjoy the view of the surrounding hills and the Ljubljana Basin.
From here, the path goes only uphill and in the direction of Kamniški vrh. From this vantage point to the vantage point directly below the summit, I needed 25 minutes, during which I also took some photos. On Kamniški vrh (directly below the actual peak), some benches await you, which are in poor condition, so be careful not to fall now that you’ve safely reached the hill. There is also a bivouac, in which you can take shelter from possible rain, and in extreme cases, you can also spend the night in it. In it, there is also a logbook in which you can write your name, but the logbook is also at the actual summit. From the vantage point to the highest point of Kamniški vrh, you need 2 minutes, and there you will also find a logbook for signing and stamps with which you can confirm your arrival in your hiking logbook.
Since you’ve already experienced one path, now is the opportunity to descend by the other, longer but less steep path. Continue the path towards the west; in this direction, on a clear day, you will also see the tower on Krvavec. From the top, you start descending, and I managed to reach a saddle in 5 minutes, where you will again see a mountain signpost offering a continuation of the path straight towards the west. On it is written Osredek, Krvavec. At this sign, you can choose to descend the steep slope and thus return to the starting point at the quarry above the village Slevo. I decided to continue the path to the mountain pasture Osredek. Thus, two more ascents were ahead of me. One on a hill whose name I don’t know, and then also on a slightly higher hill named Planjava.
In just under 10 minutes, I went from the "crossroads" or "saddle" below Kamniški vrh to the highest point on the hill Planjava. From here, the path leads only downwards. I needed 15 minutes for the descent and arrived again at the next crossroads, from where you can continue the path directly towards the hill Krvavec. On the sign is written Pl. Osredek, Sv. Ambrož, Šenturška Gora. Here, I went left downhill, in the direction recommended by the mountain signpost. This is also the last path for returning to the starting point. And from here on, the path is marked with mountain signs.
From this crossroads to the mountain pasture Osredek (at least I think it was the mountain pasture Osredek, as there were two shepherd’s cottages there), I needed 5 minutes to reach the shepherd’s cottages. I took some time to take a few photos, then continued the path towards the starting point. Along the path, there is a cross or religious symbol where you can leave a candle, although I personally do not recommend using candles that burn with a flame. Electronic ones are, in this case, much more suitable for safety reasons to prevent fire. On this path, you will have to cross scree twice (a place where sand is located, which slides down the hill during rains). At these two spots, walking is somewhat difficult, but the mountaineering club has taken care of reinforcing the path.
In 40 minutes, I descended from the mountain pasture Osredek (from the shepherd’s cottages) back to the starting point at the quarry. Then, the path through the village Slevo awaits you, back to the place where you left your car. In the village Slevo, there is also a monument to 10 partisans who were killed by Home Guard soldiers in January 1945, and here you can also light a candle.
Good luck.
