Access to starting point:
From Kranjska Gora over mountain pass Vršič we drive towards Bovec. In Spodnja Trenta, a little after the road sign 6.5 km we will on the left side of the road notice an appropriate space for parking.
From Bovec, we drive towards Kranjska Gora. In Spodnja Trenta few 100 meters after Galerija Berebica we will on the left side of the road notice a cart track and signpost for Berebica. From here we drive for few 10 meters on the road, and then we will notice on the right side appropriate spot for parking.
Path description:
From the parking lot, we continue few 10 meters by the main road in the direction of Bovec. On the right side of the road, we will then notice a cart track or mule track and signpost for Berebica. At the beginning of the mule tracks there is also the sign TNP.
We go on the mentioned path and we start ascending in hairpin turns. Turns are also marked with numbers. In the first part, the path runs on a quite steep slope, so that in spite of the forest occasionally still a nice view opens up towards Soča and surrounding mountains. A little higher we cross a fence and mule track leads us past some landscaped gardens. Further, we are for quite some time still ascending in hairpin turns, and at 19th turn we get to a smaller crossing by which there is a well with a drinking water. Here is also hunting path branches off to the right on which also also leads on Staro Utro.
We continue on a military mule track and the slope becomes a little less steep. Such a path which still runs through the forest then brings us to a crossroad. A path branches off to the left towards the mountain pasture Berebica to which there is only few minutes of walking, and we continue right and we are still ascending on a mule track, which leads on Staro Utro.
We are still ascending in hairpin turns through the forest all the way to the last 24th hairpin turn. A mule track, which is in quite bad condition then soon becomes less steep and crosses increasingly steep slopes. Such a path from which wonderful views opening up then soon brings us on Staro Utro where there is also Hunting cottage Berebica.
We continue past the hunting cottage and we go on a footpath which runs towards the south and at first ascends through the forest. The forest soon passes into dwarf pines and from the path beautiful views opening up also towards the east. On such path we then soon reach the panoramic peak. The peak is otherwise vegetated with dwarf pines, so if we want to ascend to the very highest point, we have to ascend few more meters through dense dwarf pines.
