Krokar

Description of mountain:
Krokar is a 1122-meter-high peak located in the heart of the Krokar primeval forest in the Kočevje region. From the summit, which drops steeply toward the Kolpa River valley, there are beautiful views of the hills surrounding the upper reaches of the Kolpa River and of Gorski kotar on the Croatian side.

Krokar Peak lies deep within the strict forest reserve of the Krokar Primeval Forest, which has been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List due to its exceptional primitivity. The entire area is left exclusively to nature, so entry is legally forbidden. The path branching off the Borovška Nature Trail toward Krokar Peak is wild, illegal, and unmarked. Crossing the strict reserve markers (two horizontal blue lines on trees) constitutes a violation of nature conservation laws and is punishable.
Beautiful views of this unspoiled natural area and the Kolpa valley can be enjoyed completely legally and safely from the edge of the reserve by climbing the nearby Cerk Peak (1192 m) or visiting the marked Krokar Primeval Forest Trail.
