Dom pod Storžičem - Bašeljski vrh (via Javorniški preval)

Access to starting point:
We drive to Tržič, then follow the signs for Dovžanovo sotesko; still before the end of Tržič, we turn right towards Lom pod Storžičem, Grahovš and Dom pod Storžičem. Beyond the settlements, the asphalt ends, and we follow the gravel road towards Dom pod Storžičem. Higher up, the gravel road becomes partially damaged in places, but we follow it to the parking lot near Planinski dom pod Storžičem.

Route description:
The described trail on the section crossing the eastern slopes of Storžič is damaged, full of fallen trees and therefore dangerous and closed until further notice! Data from August 2024.

From the parking lot near Dom pod Storžičem, head to the left road towards Javorniško sedlo, Jezersko, Tič, Rekar and Grahovš. After a few steps, the road forks, and we continue slightly right towards Javorniški preval, gradually starting a moderate ascent.
Higher up, as the road turns into a cart track, leave it and continue right on the marked trail, which begins to ascend more steeply; to Javorniški preval, it crosses the cart track twice more, and it is also possible to reach Javorniški preval via the cart track. After about 1 hour of walking, reach the mentioned pass, where there is a signpost and stamping box, and a junction of several trails.
Continue slightly right towards Kališče and Jezersko (left Planina Javornik, slightly left Močnikovo sedlo, right Storžič), first crossing the slopes of Škarjeve peči, soon beginning a traverse descent. After crossing the torrent bed, the trail forks; take the right one (left descends towards Jezersko), which continues traversing the slopes. Gradually reach steeper slopes, which due to poor trail definition are especially slippery when wet. During the traverse, there are several more crossings of gullies requiring extra caution; upon leaving the forest, the slope becomes gentler and leads to easy scree. After the scree, gradually ascend; after a short slightly exposed rocky section, the trail becomes very steep briefly, leading through bushes and scree. As steepness eases, a few minutes of leftward traverse ascent follows, joining the trail from Jezersko.
Continue right and ascend the maintained trail through the torrent gully to Bašeljski preval, from where a nice view south opens up.
Continue left towards Kališče (right Storžič), but leave the Kališče trail a few steps before the bench, turning left onto a path usually marked by a cairn. Through a short scree band, it leads to grassy sandy terrain where the trail temporarily vanishes; on the upper part, it reappears, leading through scree. A few minutes of steep ascent follow; upon reaching the ridge, join the trail from Kališče.
Go right here, and in a few dozen scenic steps, reach the bench and stamping box on Bašeljski vrh.
