Dom v Tamarju - Srednja Ponca / Ponza di Mezze

Access to starting point:
From Kranjska Gora, we drive towards the border crossing Rateče, but only to the spot where (in the village Rateče) the road to Planica and the Tamar valley branches off to the left. The road, which moderately ascends, soon brings us to a large parking lot at the ski jumps in Planica. From here we continue on a macadam road in the direction of Dom v Tamarju, which we then follow to the parking lot, which is located near the mountain hut.
The road into the Tamar valley is now closed. This extends the path by approximately 1 hour.

Path description:
From the parking lot, we continue on the road past the mountain hut and head onto the footpath following the signs for Jalovec, Ponce. The path runs through the forest and soon brings us to a junction, where we turn right following the signs Srednja Ponca, Visoka Ponca. The left path continues ahead through the valley towards Kotovo sedlo and Jalovec. The path brings us out of the forest and starts to ascend to the right of a smaller stream. The path turns again to the right and starts to ascend through dwarf pines on a fairly steep slope. The path then turns slightly to the left and brings us past a smaller cave back into the forest, through which we ascend for quite some time. After a few steep ascents through the forest, the path brings us out of the forest and to the first steel cables on the path. Here the path turns to the right and ascends steeply. The steepness soon eases and a crossing of the slopes towards the north follows. Towards the end, the slopes become quite steep and some steel cables assist us. The path then turns to the left and starts to ascend somewhat more steeply all the way to the main ridge of Ponc. On the ridge, we then turn right and to the summit of Srednja Ponca only a few more metres of ascent follow.
