Forestry cottage Rovtarica - Gladki vrh (Ratitovec)

Access to starting point:
A) First, we drive to Škofja Loka, and then we continue driving towards Železniki. In Železniki we turn right in the direction of Rudno, Dražgoše and Bohinjska Bistrica. Towards Dražgoše we drive to the settlement Rudno, there we continue slightly left in the direction of Bohinjska Bistrica. Further, for quite some time, we drive on a macadam road which is for first 10 km moderately ascending, and then it starts descending towards forestry cottage on Rovtarica, where we park on an appropriate place by the crossroad of multiple roads.
B) We drive to Bohinjska Bistrica and we continue driving towards Soriška planina. After few kilometers of ascent we get to a crossroad, where the road towards Soriška planina branches off sharply to the right, and we continue straight in the direction of Železniki and Škofja Loka. Further, the road becomes a macadam, and we follow it to the forestry cottage on Rovtarica, where we park on an appropriate place by the crossroad of multiple roads.

Path description:
From forestry cottage on Rovtarica we go in the direction of Bohinjska Bistrica. At first for few minutes we walk on the main road, after that signposts for Ratitovec and Pečana point us to the left on the forest road. Further, we are gently ascending through ample forests of Jelovica and at the crossroads, we continue in the direction of Ratitovec. Higher forest suddenly ends, because the path brings us to area, which was 29.6.2006 caught in a strong storm with a strong wind. Here at the crossroad we continue left and further ascending on a scenic slope, from which a nice view opens up towards Jelovica, Triglav and Karawanks. The road further is for some time ascending towards the left, after that returns into the forest and starts turning more and more to the right. Next follows a short descent and the road brings us on the northern slopes of Zeleni vrh (1525 meters). From here occasionally a view opens up a little on Julian Alps, and we continue on the road which is occasionally still slightly descending. When the road again turns towards the south, we need to pay attention, because it will soon cross a marked path Ribčeva planina - Ratitovec.
When we reach the mentioned spot, where the road crosses the marked path, we continue left upwards and we continue the ascent on a marked footpath. The path at first moderately ascends, and then turns to the right and gradually descends to the near road. We again continue the ascent on the road, and there in few minutes we walk to its end, where there is a larger parking lot and a turning point.
From the parking lot, we continue on a wide cart track which starts relatively steeply ascending through the forest. After approximately 10 minutes of walking cart track flattens, after that only a little further brings us to cottages on the mountain pasture Pečana.
Few strides above the mentioned cottages we come out of the forest on grassy slopes, and we continue on the right side of the mountain pasture only few meters and then at the crossing we continue right in the direction of the mountain hut Krekova koča (straight Kosmati vrh). The path ahead starts moderately ascending through thinner spruce forest. Higher, we finally step out of the forest on an ample pastures of Ratitovec, where we leave the cart track and we continue the ascent on a little poorly visible, but marked footpath which after few minutes of additional walking brings us on the upper slope of Ratitovec, where from the right side joins the path from Soriška planina. We continue left and an increasingly panoramic path which leads us past the winter bivouac we follow all the way to the mountain hut Krekova koča na Ratitovcu, which we reach after a little less than 5 minutes of additional walking.
From the mountain hut, we continue left on a little steeper path in the direction of Gladki vrh. This increasingly panoramic path, we then follow all the way to Gladki vrh, and we reach it after 5 minutes of additional walking.

On the way: Planina Pečana (1472m), Krekova koča na Ratitovcu mountain hut (1642m)
