Access to starting point:
A) First, we drive to Kamnik, and then we continue driving in the direction of the Črnivec pass. Just a few 100 m before the mentioned pass we notice signs for Kranjski Rak, which direct us sharply left onto a narrow and at first also quite steep road. The road levels out higher up and then brings us to the Volovljek pass, where near the Kranjski Rak inn we also park (parking in front of the inn is allowed only for guests).
B) From Gornji Grad we drive towards Kamnik, then just a few 100 m after the Črnivec pass we continue right in the direction of Kranjski Rak. Further, we follow the above description.
C) From Savinjska dolina we first drive to Luče, and then we continue driving towards Kamnik. When we come to the Volovljek pass we park at a suitable place near the Kranjski Rak inn (parking in front of the inn is allowed only for guests).
Route description:
From Kranjski Rak we continue on a macadam road in the direction of Velika planina. The road at first slightly descends, then passes into the forest, where it starts moderately ascending. After approximately half an hour of walking, we come to a somewhat larger crossroad, where we continue right in the direction of Konjščica and planina Dol (straight or slightly left planina Kisovec). The road then brings us to a large parking lot (possible starting point), and we continue on the forest road, which is closed to public traffic. From the parking lot, we follow the mentioned road for approximately 10 minutes, then the blazes direct us left onto a grassy slope, across which a relatively steep path leads. Soon the path flattens for a short time, and on the right side bypasses a lonely shepherd hut. Behind the hut the path passes into the forest and starts steeply ascending. Higher, we join a wider and less steep path from planina Marjanine njive. We follow the mentioned path to the left, which quickly brings us out of the forest onto the grazing areas of Mala planina. Here the path completely flattens and after a few minutes of further walking brings us to a marked, but in fog poorly visible junction. We continue slightly right in the direction of Jarški dom, to which a 5-minute ascent over an increasingly panoramic slope remains.
The mentioned hut we bypass on the left side, then we continue the ascent on a wide path, which gently ascends through sparse forest. Already after a few minutes a path to Črnuški dom branches off to the left, and we continue straight and follow the wide path all the way to Domžalski dom na Mali planini.
The path then descends into a smaller valley, where we again step onto a wide path (almost road). We continue right and follow the path to a poorly marked path junction, where the path in the direction of the Gradiščkovi shepherd hut branches off to the left. We continue straight on a wide cart track in the direction of "chapel and Zeleni Rob". After a few minutes of further walking the path to the chapel Marije Snežne branches off to the right initially downwards, which we have seen in front of us for some time. Only a short ascent follows and the path brings us to the mentioned chapel.
In fog the orientation is very difficult.

Discussion about the trip Kranjski Rak - Chapel of Marija Snežna (Velika planina) (below on road)

I'll do it tomorrow, today I'm just setting off for tomorrow's hike.
TFerarri13. 08. 2011
Tomorrow on foot we start around 8.30 from the car parking, maybe someone else will join ???

On Christmas Eve the hike on the slightly longer path was quite pleasant. More people than I expected, however.... there is way too much alcohol. True that Velika Planina is a slightly longer walk and everyone who has five minutes of time climbs up, but you still need to get back to the valley. The damage we do to our children with this is not small. They will get the example that you have to get drunk on mountains, otherwise you are not IN.
I am not a moralist and I gladly treat myself to a "košitnik" when I huff up there, but I do not support boozing.eek
