Podkraj - Srednja gora (Hrušica) (east path)

Access to starting point:
From Logatec we drive towards Idrija. Just a little after the village of Kalce we notice a road that turns left towards the villages of Podkraj and Col. We take this rather winding road and follow it to the village of Podkraj. We park in a small parking area by the road near the sign marking the end of Podkraj (mountain direction signs are also at the parking area).
From Primorska we first drive to Col, then continue driving towards the village of Podkraj. When the road reaches the start of the village we do not continue right into the village but follow the left upper road that bypasses the village center. Near the sign for the beginning of Podkraj we park in a small parking area by the road.

Route description:
From the starting point we head onto the ascending cart track towards Sveti Duh and Javornik. After a few steps the track turns right and then ascends transversely across a grassy slope. Higher up we enter a short stretch of forest, after which the path brings us to a marked junction where we continue right towards Javornik (left Sv. Duh and Križna gora). The path ahead ascends gently along the edge of the forest and then brings us to Izakova koča (a small emergency shelter) which lies slightly to the left of the path.
A little above the shelter we reach a junction of several cart tracks. We continue straight (direction Javornik) on a partly stony cart track and follow it for a few minutes, then at a small junction (marked) we continue slightly right on a grassy cart track that leads us past an old military bunker. We bypass the bunker on the left side, after which the path brings us along the edge of a pasture fence. We continue along the pasture fence for some time, then the path makes an orientation loop. The path turns right downhill, essentially in the direction from which we came, then after a short descent turns left into the forest. Ahead we enter dense forest and ascend moderately for some time on a fairly overgrown cart track. A short descent follows and the path brings us to a gravel road which we follow to the left. The road soon leads us out of the forest onto extensive grassy slopes in the middle of which we reach a junction.
We continue straight (right Javornik) on the gravel road which soon returns to the forest and higher up brings us to a small saddle where a marked path joins from the right coming from Streliški vrh. We continue on the road which soon ends and turns into a gradually steeper cart track. Higher up the cart track levels out and the markings direct us slightly left onto a footpath which first skirts a small clearing and then enters dense forest where it begins to ascend steeply. Higher up we reach a fine viewpoint located on a kind of pre-summit of Srednja gora. From the viewpoint we continue on a relatively gentle mountain path which after a few more minutes of walking through the forest brings us to the highest point of Srednja gora.
