Access to starting point:
From Dobrova, Horjul, Gorenja vas or Črni Vrh we drive to Polhov Gradec, more precisely to the crossroads next to the main bus station in Polhov Gradec. We park in a suitable place near the station, best on the parking lot by the bridge over the river Božna.
Route description:
From the starting point we continue for a short time along the main road in the direction of Ljubljana, then behind the inn Gostilna pri Pratkarju we notice mountain signposts for Grmada, Belica, Katarina and Tošč, which direct us left onto the path that continues along the brick fence. After a short ascent we step onto an asphalt road and follow it to the right, but we walk only a few steps on it, as the blazes then lead us left onto a path that is at first still quite wide. The path, from which a nice view opens up on Polhov Gradec and St. Lovrenc, then enters the forest and for some time ascends mostly diagonally. Higher we cross the riverbed of Frjetov graben ditch, then in a few steps we ascend to a meadow, where the path leads along a wooden fence. The path across the meadow quickly brings us to a macadam road, which we follow to the right, and in a minute or two of further walking we arrive at the mountain hut Planinski dom na Ravneku.
We continue along the road for a short time longer, then the marked path crosses it several times. Higher we return to the road, which brings us to the hamlet Ravnek, where behind the last house we reach a smaller crossroads, where we continue slightly left (slightly right Grmada - usual path from Ravnek) along the lower road, which is not marked further but orientationally undemanding. There follows an approximately 15-minute traverse in a gentle descent, then we reach an asphalt road that leads from the hamlet Božna. Along this road we walk to Setnica, a hamlet with a few houses, where there is also the farm tourism Pri Mehačku. Before the farm tourism we continue right onto the marked path, which leads us past a few more houses, then, when the houses end, we reach a junction where the path to Grmada continues right, while we continue slightly left in the direction of the church of St. Uršula. We continue along a wide, gentle and panoramic cart track, along which in a few minutes we arrive at the little church, located in the middle of a pleasant meadow.
Behind the church we continue along a gentle path that proceeds through a small valley and across a pleasant meadow. On the other side of the expansive meadow the path gradually moves onto the slope and begins to ascend ever more steeply. After approximately 15 minutes of panoramic ascent we reach the ridge of Mala Grmada, where we rejoin the marked path.
We continue left along the path that immediately after the junction takes us to the summit of Mala Grmada.
Description and pictures refer to the condition in 2015 (March).

Discussion about the trip Polhov Gradec - Mala Grmada (via Ravnek and via Sveta Uršula)

For information, the road to the Planinski dom on Ravnek is asphalted. Otherwise, a nice trip to Mala Grmada today, I went up the marked path from the mountain hut past the Ravnek hamlet and the hunting hut under the ridge, descended via the circular path past Sv. Uršula and Setnica back to Ravnek. The loop from the mountain hut takes about 2h. The path is quite icy, especially higher up. But it probably won't be like that for long. The views are of course stunning in all directions - a snowy fairy tale. Also, at Sv. Uršula under Mala Grmada there is ideal terrain for sledding/skiing, which today was also used by two enthusiastic border collies. I hope that something opens at Mehačak soon. Even the empty house already looks very nicely made - nicely shaped formwork in all natural wood shades.
