Ruška koča na Arehu - Veliki Šumik waterfall

Access to starting point:
A) From the highway Ljubljana - Maribor we go to the exit Rače - Fram, and then we follow the signs for Fram. We continue through the center of Fram, and then we start ascending towards the settlements Kopivnik, Planica and Frajhajm, and higher we follow the signs for Areh. When we join a wider road we go left and still follow the signs for Areh. We park on a large parking lot near Ruška koča na Arehu.
B) We leave the Štajerska highway at the exit for Slivnica and Rogoza, and then we follow the signs for Pohorje and Areh. The path ahead leads us through Spodnje and Zgornje Hoče, Slivniško Pohorje, and after the settlements we follow the signs for Areh. We park on a large parking lot near Ruška koča na Arehu.

Path description:
From the parking lot near Ruška koča na Arehu we go on the road in the direction of Žigartov vrh, Šumik and Cojzarice. After approximately 10 minutes of walking on the road which leads through the forest, we get to a marked junction, where we continue left towards Bajgot and waterfall Šumik (straight - Žigartov vrh).
The path ahead returns into the forest and leads us on a worse forest road, from which soon a path branches off to the left downwards to the source of Polskava (5 minutes), and we continue straight. After some time, we go from the worse road slightly right, on a cart track which ascends diagonally on the slopes of Žigartov vrh. The cart track quickly flattens and brings us to a marked junction, where a path joins us from the right which leads over Žigartov vrh and is somewhat longer than ours.
We continue straight and gradually descend through the forest, lower we cross another forest road. Further on we mostly walk on cart tracks along the path which rises and falls several times, at junctions we follow the blazes. After a somewhat longer descent we arrive at the NOB monument, where we reach the macadam road.
On the road we walk only a few dozen steps and the path splits.
We choose the right path in the direction of Pesek (left - sv. Trije kralji) and temporarily leave the road, a little further we cross another road, we continue straight on a worse forest road, along which blazes accompany us. There follows some slight ascent, then we go past the hunting observatory, the road gradually turns into a cart track. A little further we go from the cart track slightly right, then we start descending diagonally. Lower we cross the road Areh - Osankarica, a little lower we reach the road Areh - Šumik.
When we reach the road Areh - Šumik we go left, to which from the left also a marked path from sv. Trije kralji and Osankarica joins. We continue further on the road, along it we quickly arrive at the starting point Bajgot na Šumiku, where one of the paths to Ruše branches off to the right downwards (Holcarska pot along the Lobnica valley).
We continue in the mentioned direction, along which there are also signs for waterfalls Mali and Veliki Šumik (straight - estate Šumik, Koča na Klopnem vrhu...).
The path ahead starts to descend lightly along Lobnica, soon we arrive at a warning that the path ahead is very steep and slippery. A little further we cross Lobnica over a footbridge, then we descend along the right bank of Lobnica, where we gradually move onto steeper and steeper slopes. Further on, pegs and wire ropes help us at the more difficult spots, a little lower with the aid of safety gear we descend over a shorter wall. Even below the wall the slope is quite steep and dangerous for slipping, we descend mainly without safety gear.
A little lower we arrive at the spot where the stamp is located, and then we descend along the secured path to the viewpoint at waterfall Veliki Šumik.
