Access to starting point:
We leave Gorenjska highway at exit Hrušica and follow the road ahead in the direction of Kranjska Gora. Just a little before the village Dovje the road which goes to Mojstrana (Vrata, Kot and Krma) branches off to the left. We follow the road ahead in the direction of village Radovna and the valleys Krma and Kot. The relatively steep road then runs past the sign TNP, behind which the road soon flattens and it brings us to a crossroad, where a macadam road into a valley Kot branches off to the right. We continue straight on the road which starts descending. In the middle of the descent, a road into a valley Krma branches off to the right (straight Radovna). A little further, we come to the next crossing, where we continue right in the direction of Krma. Macadam road then brings us to the mountain hut Kovinarska koča, and we follow it further. Occasionally a little rough road then brings us to a parking lot in front of the gate.
Path description:
From the parking lot, we continue past a gate and we continue on gentle and for public traffic closed forest road. The worse road for some time continues on an extensive gravel terrain, and then turns slightly to the right, where passes into the forest and changes into a rocky cart track. Further, we are for some time gently ascending through the forest, after we stride across a little bigger torrent, the path starts ascending steeper through a dense forest. Higher, we pass out of the forest into a lane of dwarf pines, mixed with bushes, and the path is over the mentioned slope ascending on gravel. At the altitude approximately 1400 meters, the path flattens and after few 10 strides of additional walking brings us on a nice grassy plain named Vrtača.
On the other side of the plain, wide path again starts ascending and after approximately 20 minutes of additional walking brings us on Malo polje, where it turns to the right and brings us on a less noticeable crossing. We continue on easy to follow path (left Vodnikov dom over Bohinjska vratca), which is for some time gently ascending, and then it brings us to a trough with water. Further, the path splits into two parts, and we continue straight on a marked path, which over at first grassy slopes brings us to shepherd cottages on the mountain pasture Zgornja Krma.
From the shepherd hut, we continue slightly right, on a marked mountain path, which in few minutes of a light ascent brings us to a marked crossing. We continue right in the direction of Kredarica and Staničev dom (left Planika and Konjsko sedlo) on a gently sloping traverse path, which with nice views in few minutes brings us to the next crossing.
This time we continue slightly left in the direction of the mountain hut Triglavski dom (straight Staničev dom) on the path which starts gradually ascending steeper and steeper. After few minutes of additional walking, the path turns to the left and starts ascending steeply over a grassy slope. On the top of the mentioned slopes, the path turns also a little towards the left and gradually passes into a smaller, occasionally quite rough valley. The path ahead gradually flattens and brings us on more plateau terrain surrounded with dwarf pines, where we come to a smaller unmarked crossing. We continue right (left saddle Konjsko sedlo on an unmarked path) on a marked path, which is for some time gently ascending on the more and more rocky slope. A little further, we get to a crossing of multiple footpaths, and we carefully follow the signs for Kredarica (left Vodnikov dom, right Staničev dom). Further, the path starts ascending steeply below the slopes of Vrh Snežne konte (area named Kalvarija). The path which is more and more covered with a gravel is slowly turning towards the left and then at the end of the ascent over Kalvarija joins the path from the saddle Konjsko sedlo.
We continue in the direction of Kredarica, on a moderately steep path, which only few steps ahead brings us to the next marked crossing. We continue right (left Planika) on a moderately steep path, which in few minutes of additional walking brings us on an indistinct ridge, which connects Vrh Snežne konte with Kredarica. Here the path turns slightly to the left and it starts ascending steeper and steeper towards the mountain hut Triglavski dom na Kredarici. After approximately 15 minutes of a steep ascent, the path flattens and in front of us, we notice the highest mountain hut in Slovenia, which we reach after few 10 strides of additional walking.
From the mountain hut Triglavski dom we continue in the direction of Triglav on a path which starts moderately descending towards the saddle between Kredarica and Mali Triglav. Here from the right joins the path from the valley Vrata, and we continue straight on an increasingly steep path which starts ascending on rugged rocks. After few minutes of a steep ascent on the path which runs by glacier Zeleni sneg, we get to the beginning of the climbing part. By, already from the far visible big blaze, we will notice the sign which warns, that we will continue the ascent on a very demanding secured mountain path. The path ahead ascends even steeper on rugged rocks, and then with the help of steel cables we cross to the left, where we get to a technically very demanding spot. The path ahead ascends diagonally on an exposed ledge, which is secured only with iron spikes. Ahead very steep and a well-secured path brings us on the ridge of Mali Triglav, where from the left joins a little easier path from Planika.
We continue straight on a ridge path, and in few 10 strides of additional walking brings us to the summit of Mali Triglav. From Mali Triglav, from where a nice view opens up to the summit and larger part of the path which is in front of us, the path slightly descends, and then it brings us on an indistinct saddle between the both peaks. The path ahead again starts ascending, on a well-secured ridge path. This very panoramic and on some parts also very steep path, we then follow all the way to the top of Triglav.
Krma - Zgornja Krma 2:30, Zgornja Krma - Kredarica 2:30, Kredarica - Triglav 1:10.
On the way: Vrtača (1430m), Malo polje (1585m), Planina Zgornja Krma (1720m), Triglavski dom na Kredarici mountain hut (2515m), Mali Triglav (2725m)
