Access to starting point:
A) First, we drive to Kamnik, and then we continue driving in the direction of the Črnivec pass. Only a few 100 meters before the mentioned pass we notice signs for Kranjski Rak, which direct us sharply left onto a narrow and at first also quite steep road. The road higher up flattens and then brings us to the Volovjek pass, where immediately behind the Kranjski Rak inn we turn left onto a road in the direction of Velika planina. Further, we drive on a macadam road, which higher brings us to the next somewhat larger crossroad. We continue right (straight Planina Kisovec) and follow the moderately ascending road to the larger and marked parking lot Za Ušivcem.
B) From the Savinjska valley we first drive to Luče, and then we continue driving towards Kamnik. When we reach the Volovjek pass (Kranjski Rak) we continue right in the direction of Velika planina. Further, we follow the description above.
Route description:
Near the parking lot we notice signs for Mala and Velika planina, which point us into the forest, on a well-beaten but unmarked footpath. The path first ascends through the forest, then flattens and brings us out of the forest onto grassy slopes, where it turns slightly to the left and joins the forest road. On the road we walk only a short time, then we arrive at the next signposts.
Here an unmarked footpath branches off slightly to the right, which leads to Velika planina, but we continue straight on the marked path in the direction of Mala and Velika planina. The path ahead still leads along the road, which past the hunting observatory brings us to the next marked junction, where a narrower road to Dovja Ravan branches off to the right. We continue straight on the road in the direction of Mala planina, which with nice views brings us to Gojška planina, from where we continue right in the direction of Jarški, Črnuški and Domžalski dom. After one hour and fifteen minutes of walking from the starting point, we arrive at Jarški dom on Mala planina.
We bypass the mentioned hut on the left side, then continue the ascent on a wide path that gently ascends through sparse forest. Already after a few minutes, the path to Črnuški dom branches off to the left, and we continue straight and follow the wide path all the way to Domžalski dom on Mala planina.
The path then descends into a smaller valley, where we again step onto a wide path (almost a road). We continue right and follow the path to a poorly marked path junction, where the path toward the Gradiščkovi shepherd hut branches off to the left. We continue straight on the wide cart track in the direction of "chapel and Zeleni Rob". After a few minutes of further walking, a path to the chapel Marije Snežne branches off to the right, initially downward, which we have been seeing in front of us for some time. Only a short ascent follows and the path brings us to the mentioned chapel.
