Zaplaz - Bajturn (Zaplaški hrib) (on north slope)

Access to starting point:
A) From the highway Ljubljana - Novo mesto, take the Trebnje East exit, then continue driving in the direction of the settlement Velika Loka. After the settlement Zidani Most we arrive at the settlement Štefan pri Trebnjem, where we continue sharply left in the direction of Zaplaz. After a few kilometers of a partly winding road we arrive at Čatež, where the road to Zaplaz branches off to the left. We continue left towards Zaplaz and continue driving on a steep road, on which we quickly arrive at the parking lot near the church of the Mother of God.
B) From Trebnje or Mokronog we drive to Mirna, from there we drive towards Litija. Towards Litija we drive to the sharp right turn, from there we continue left in the direction of Cirnik and Selska Gora. After Cirnik the road gradually starts descending. When we descend to the river Mirna we first cross the bridge, then at the intersection we continue left. After the intersection the road slowly starts ascending, then it brings us to the settlement Čatež, where we turn right in the direction of Zaplaz. After a shorter steep drive we arrive at the church of the Mother of God in front of which we park on a larger parking lot.
C) We drive to Šmartno pri Litiji, from there we continue driving towards Gabrovka. After the settlement Moravče pri Gabrovki, after the transformer we turn slightly right in the direction towards the gas station. Further on we drive through the valley of the river Mirna. When after the turn-off for Gornje Ravne the road turns right, it leaves the river Mirna and starts ascending towards Čatež. In Čatež we turn right in the direction of Zaplaz. After a shorter steep drive we arrive at the church of the Mother of God in front of which we park on a larger parking lot.

Path description:
From the parking lot on Zaplaz we continue towards the west, where at the end of the parking lot we arrive at a marked junction.
We continue right in the direction of the chapel with healing water (straight Bajturn along the ridge), which we quickly reach. From the chapel we ascend steeply on a well-maintained path, the path quickly levels out and turns right. A traverse follows, where the path leads past a viewpoint from which a nice view of Kum opens up. From the viewpoint we descend briefly, then arrive at a junction where we continue left (via the right path we can descend to Čatež).
We continue through the forest on a path alongside which there are numerous signs of the forest educational trail. In a few short ascents somewhat later we join another cart track, which we follow right (if we continued left we could get to Zaplaz). The forest path then brings us after a few minutes of further walking to a water tank, behind which we turn sharply left and then ascend to the summit of Bajturn in a few minutes.
