Access to starting point:
From Kranjska Gora over the border crossing Rateče we drive to Trbiž / Tarvisio. Further, we drive on the old road towards Videm / Udine. Already after few kilometers from Trbiž / Tarvisio road in Ovčja vas / Valbruna branches off to the left. We follow the road to a large parking lot at the bottom station of old cable car.
Path description:
From the parking lot, we continue on the road ahead, but only about a minute, because we then notice bad forest road, which goes left upwards. Road, which at first ascends is later barely ascending. After approximately 20 minutes of walking from the parking lot road crosses torrent, and about 10 meters before torrent marked path on Svete Višarje branches off to the left. Already at the very beginning of the footpath we run into overgrown path, which over high grass and bushes brings us in the forest. Path through the forest is easier to follow, but pretty steep. The further path is marked, but blazes are already faded. Steep path leads us on in parts very steep slope, which is in wet dangerous for slipping. The steepness decreases, when the path brings us on a ridge covered with a forest. Steepness is then still decreasing, and the path brings us to hovels old wooden cottages. On this part path crosses overgrown area, and then again starts moderately ascending. Path ahead leads us also past two similar hovels, and then it ascends below old cableway. The marked path from here ahead vanishes in high grass, so it is recommended, that we go right upwards, where in few steps we come to a ski track.
Path ahead continues on rocky cart track, that runs by the edge of the ski track.
In the winter it is forbidden to walk on a ski slope! While walking on a ski slope beautiful views opening up. A little higher we come to the crossroad of two ski tracks, and we go right steeply upwards. Here in front of us we see transmitters on Svete Višarje. When steepness decreases we bypass transmitters on the left side and the path brings us to the upper station of the cable car.
Only a short ascent follows to a church. Some meters above the church is a breathtaking view on surrounding mountains.
On Višarje we notice macadam road, which starts moderately descending (road is located on the right side of hamlet on Svete Višarje). We follow this road approximately 15 minutes to the chapel, where signs for Kamniti lovec / Monte Cacciatore point us on foot footpath by the chapel. Path at first runs almost horizontal, and then starts ascending and from eastern slopes soon brings us on the western. Path soon leaves the forest and brings us on the scree below Beraški križ.
Next follows a little steeper ascent to cirque below Kamniti lovec. Here we see our destination already very close. Path ahead turns a little to the right and it ascends on scree below Kamniti lovec. Next follows a crossing of the scree in a gentle ascent to the entrance into a more demanding part of the path. Trail blaze points us right into a gully upwards. Path here steeply ascends, and we get help from a steel cable. After few meters path leaves gully and turns right. After few meters path brings us in neighbouring gully. Path between gullies is well-secured. Next follows an ascent through the gully upwards, which is in parts secured and in parts we have to use hands. At the ascent and at the descent at that part we have to be careful, not to trigger stones. On top of the gully, we go right and in few steps we reach the panoramic peak.
Ovčja vas - Svete Višarje 2:30. Svete Višarje - Kamniti lovec 1:30.
On the way: Planina Limerca (1300m), Svete Višarje (1766m)
