Spodnja Kokra - Mali Grintovec (via Baba)

Access to starting point:
From the Ljubljana - Jesenice highway, take the Kranj - East exit and follow the road ahead in the direction of Jezersko. Just a few kilometers after the turn-off for Preddvor, we will notice a transformer on the right side of the road and a parking lot next to it, where we park. There are also signposts for the mountain hut Dom Čemšenik.

Path description:
From the parking lot, first carefully cross the road, then head onto the footpath in the direction of the mountain hut Dom Čemšenik. The wide path ascends barely noticeably to the Polajnar homestead, where we step onto the road, which we follow to the right.
The road steeply ascends just after the house, but it loses its asphalt covering a little higher. Further, the road flattens and turns slightly to the left, where it comes right up to the Čemšeniški potok stream. A little further, we cross the mentioned stream and immediately after it we arrive at a marked junction, where we continue on the left road in the direction of the mountain hut Dom Čemšenik. The road then starts ascending more steeply again and brings us to the mountain hut Dom Čemšenik after less than 30 minutes of further walking.
From the mountain hut Dom Čemšenik, continue behind the hut on a well-visible but unmarked path that goes into the forest and starts ascending gently at first, then ever steeper. The path soon brings us to a modest vantage point, where it turns slightly to the right and then ascends transversely. Higher up, the path brings us to the main ridge (view of the Gorenjska plain), where it ascends even steeper and after a few minutes of further walking brings us to a more level area where a wooden cottage (weekend cottage) stands.
A little before the cottage, the path turns to the right and after a few more steps brings us to the inscription box on Baba.
From the inscription box, continue on a nicely traceable path that continues along the occasionally panoramic ridge, from which a nice view first opens towards Cjanovca, Kočna, Grintovec, Kalški greben and other surrounding hills. The path further first continues on the left side of the ridge, then after an indistinct saddle passes to the right (eastern) slopes of Potoška gora. A few minutes of transverse ascent follow, then we join the marked path that leads from Dom Čemšenik.
Continue upwards and relatively quickly arrive at the saddle between Potoška gora on the left and the forepeak of Javorov vrh on the right.
At the saddle there is a marked junction, where we continue right (left Potoška gora, slightly left Planinska koča Iskra na Jakobu (we can descend via one of the mentioned paths)) in the direction of Javorov vrh. The path continues along the forested ridge, deviating to the right only at the indistinct forepeak. A slight ascent follows, from which some view opens up again, then the path returns to the forest and forks.
Here continue left in the direction of Srednji vrh, Kališče and Storžič (straight Javorov vrh 15 minutes) on the path that after a few more steps brings us to a pleasant spring. A half-hour traverse of the slopes below Javorov vrh follows, ending at the saddle between the mentioned peak and Cjanovca.
At this marked junction, continue left in the direction of Hudičev boršt (straight Srednji vrh and Cjanovca, sharply right Javorov vrh) on the path that subsequently traverses the slopes to the left, slightly ascending and descending a few times in between. After approximately 15 minutes of walking from the last junction, we step out of the forest onto the grassy slopes of Zaplata, across which we continue the traverse. The technically undemanding path leads us across occasionally steeper slopes, where it is especially dangerous for slipping when wet in some places. In the last part before entering the forest, a steel cable also helps us, and after it the path flattens completely. When we enter the forest, we have only a short walk to the shelter.
From the shelter continue towards the west, where we quickly arrive at the spring in Hudičev boršt, immediately after it at the marked junction, where we continue straight (left downhill Mačenska pot to Mače). A shorter traverse of the grassy slope follows, then the path enters the forest and brings us to the next junction.
This time continue right in the direction of Cjanovca, Srednji vrh and Mali Grintovec (straight dom na Kališču and one of the paths via which we can descend to Mače) on the path that starts ascending more steeply through the forest. The fairly steep path brings us higher into a smaller valley, where the forest thins, and the path flattens. After a few minutes of walking along the mentioned valley, the path turns right, ascends more steeply and after a short ascent brings us to the cottage on Dolga njiva.
Here is a junction, where we head onto the less trodden path that goes horizontally behind the cottage (along the valley upwards). The path then starts ascending gently along the Dolga njiva valley and after more than 20 minutes of walking brings us to the saddle, where there is the next junction. Head left following the signs for Mali Grintovec (right Srednji vrh). The path then moderately ascends across the slope that is partly overgrown with brushwood. After this shorter ascent, we reach the ridge, where the path from Kališče and Bašeljski vrh joins us. Continue right on the path that brings us to the summit after a few minutes of further walking.
Spodnja Kokra - Čemšenik 50 minutes, Čemšenik - Baba 45 minutes, Baba - Hudičev boršt 1:30, Hudičev boršt - Dolga njiva 55 minutes, Dolga njiva - Mali Grintovec 45 minutes.
