Description of mountain:
Šoštanj lies in the western part of the Šaleška Valley along the Paka River. To the east of the town lies Družmirsko Lake, formed by subsidence over the Velenje Coal Mine tunnels; at 87 m deep, it is Slovenia's deepest lake. Years ago, the village of Družmirje stood at the site of the lake, after which it is named. During the Middle Ages, the first groups of Slovenes settled in the village along with the benevolent Prince Tresimir. In the 14th century, the town of Šoštanj was granted market rights. All development shifted to the town of Šoštanj, located below Šoštanj Castle, now known as Pusti Grad. In the 19th century, Šoštanj underwent strong industrialization with the construction of the Vošnjak Tannery, at the time the largest tannery in the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. The Široko family villa is worth seeing; it has been converted into a restaurant. In the town center are the birthplace of Karl Destovnik Kajuh (Kajuhov dom), the town park (Kajuhov park), Villa Mayer, the Tannery Museum...
