Blindworm (Anguis fragilis)


The blindworm is a legless lizard up to 50 cm long, which is observed on sunny moist clearings, forest slopes and meadows up to an altitude of 2000 m. It is recognized by its gray-brown color, smooth and shiny body that almost imperceptibly transitions into the tail. It is active in the morning, evening and during rain, during the day it is found hidden under stones. It feeds on earthworms, slugs and insects. The female gives birth to up to 20 younglings at the end of summer.
