Salamandra salamandra

The fire salamander is often observed on rainy days or immediately after rain, when the forest is still quite moist in bright deciduous and mixed forests. It is active mainly at night and in twilight, during the day hiding under leaves, moss or stones. Exceptions are only rainy days, then it is active during the day as well.
We recognize it by its black colour with yellow spots and long tail. It has two pairs of equally long legs in the same colour as the body.
It reproduces in spring or summer, and hibernates in winter.
