Description:
Description: Low shrub (up to 30 cm), branches appressed to the ground. Leaves green on both sides, shiny, petiole 1-4 mm long; leaf margin not revolute, apex acute or obtuse, margins densely to sparsely hairy and glandular.
Catkins terminal on shoots, 2-3 times as long as wide, 3-5 cm long. Capsules distinctly pedicellate, densely hairy; bract at least red at base, black when dry. Male flowers (catkins) have two stamens per flower, one nectar gland otherwise. More than 12 flowers per catkin.

Grows on moist scree and meadows of subalpine and alpine belt - above forest line, up to 2500 m. Distributed in Eastern Alps, Carpathians and Tatras.
