This is a 20-60 cm tall shrublet. Flowers are similar to blueberry flowers. It bears blue berries. On acidic humus soils between 1500 m and 2700 m, one would find alpine bog whortleberry - Vaccinium uliginosum ssp. pubescens - which is 5-20 cm tall. Bog whortleberry is taller - from 20 to 60 cm. Heaths also include blueberries, cranberries, hairy whortleberry and the relative small-leaved whortleberry. In my handbook of medicinal plants by Anton Poler, it says that the last mentioned is used like blueberry. We collect leaves and fruits. With fruits, one must be careful because they can be infected with some fungus that is poisonous.
