Besides the prickly one, we also have broad-leaved butcher's-broom. Both species are protected. For the prickly one, conditional removal from nature for personal purposes is allowed except fruits, for the broad-leaved one conditional removal. In the Littoral, young shoots of prickly butcher's-broom are collected and used like asparagus in food.
