The Julian knapweed is rare and can only be found in the Bohinj Mountains and on Ratitovec.

It is very similar to the common knapweed. We will recognize it by the following characteristics:
-leaves are wide
-upper leaves are clustered around the head
-this knapweed is mostly one-headed
-bracts of the involucre are distinctly inflated (similar to those of the common knapweed and therefore we confuse it with the common one)

Common and July knapweed differ greatly, so they cannot be confused. The involucre bracts are in fact 7-10 mm wide in July knapweed, but only 4 mm in common. In common they are not inflated, in July very much so.
