Description:
Host's saxifrage (Saxifraga hostii) belongs to the saxifrage family, flowers from May to July, grows from 20 to 60 cm tall. Grows in rocky areas, scree, stony slopes. Grows up to 2500 m high. Likes its leaf rosette in the shade. From the leaf rosette whose leaves are more than 4 cm long grows a tall stem. Leaves are linear, serrated, secrete limestone on the edge. The top of the stem, which bends several times, branches dichotomously and on the branchlets there are 5-10 dotted flowers. This is our highest saxifrage. Occurs in two subspecies. We find it on Krvavec on the Ježa ridge as well as on the path to Vodnikov dom from Studorski prebal onwards and also on the botanical path below Črna prst.

Host's saxifrage occurs in two subspecies among us. We distinguish them by leaf rosettes and flower coloration. Subspecies Saxifraga hostii subsp. hostii has narrow, longer leaves in the leaf rosette and white flowers (fourth, fifth and sixth photos). Subspecies Saxifraga hostii subsp. rhaetica has wider, shorter leaves in leaf rosettes, and flowers have colored spots.
