Lady's-slipper orchid (Cypripedium calceolus)
Description:
Lady's slipper (Cypripedium calceolus) belongs to the orchid family, flowers from May to July, grows 20 to 70 cm tall. This is our strictly protected orchid. Habitats are not exactly common. We find it on Zelenica as well as on Jezersko on the path towards the starting point for Češka koča and Ledine. Grows up to 2000 m altitude. Likes sparse forests and shrubbery - loves shade and moisture. The flower is recognizable by the large - boat-shaped - slipper-shaped lip. Flowers up to 10 cm wide. Stems have 3-4 leaves up to 18 cm long and noticeably veined, hairy underneath.
